Mashpee Public Library
November 8, 2011
Director's Report
Y
As ofyesterday, circulation figures for the month of October have not yet been'rade available to
the member libraries. without the numbers we carp"t yet begin to measure the impact of the
additional open hours on our circulation statistics. However, we are seeing an increase in the
number ofpatrons using the Library during the new F'rida.y morning and Saturday after on
hours. It may take several months for the public to become fully aware of the expanded hours
and for us to see a measurable increase based on circulation.
On Wednesday, October 1 ,I attended the first CLAIMS Director's meeting ofthe new fiscal
year. The fee schedule for members was presented, and there will be a slight ($2000) increase in
membership rship fees for the upcoming year. The Director's also discussed numerous poll y.and
process issues affecting all CLAMS Libraries. This included the collection process for overdue
or lost items,, and the burgeoning use of electronic library cards. The remainder of the meeting
was devoted to a presentation of the next generation of online public access catalogs and
circulation modules. In the future,.CLAMS may opt to roll out a mobile platform, which could
be downloaded to smart phones.
On October 14, the State Aid report was filed with the Massachusetts Board of Library
Commissioners. This report compiles the financial data for the Library for the hast year,
including the amount of money expended on staffing, materials, and other operating expenses.
This report will be certified by the state and used to calculate the amount of our state aid award.
We should receive notification of our award in the next several months.
On October 15, Jamie Cat Callan came to the Library as part of our on-going author series. She
r discussed her recent book, Bonjour Happiness! which examines the style and practices ofFrench
women. The event was well attended, with about 30 guests enjoying the program and question
and answer session.
On Thursday evening,November 17 at 7.00 p.m. biographer, Chip Bishop will host a program to
discuss his new book, the Lion and the Journalist. We have been actively promoting this event
and would like to encourage everyone to spread the word and attend the event.
Artist Christianne T. Arnold's exhibit of 3-D artwork is currently on display in the event room,
and there are special glasses available to enhance the viewing experience. Janet Trash is
continuing-to work with volunteer art show coordinator Janice Wallingford to bring wonderful
artwork and showcase displays to the Library. we hope to expand this program to include
monthly artist receptions and increased publicity.
