Luring the course of the discussion, <br /> numerous topics were discussed including: <br /> Hours that the Library is open for meeting room use. <br /> Determining what is appropriate use of a public meeting room,and what type of <br /> events fall outside the scope of appropriate room use. <br /> Perception that the Library in not a friendly,place, or is not user friendly due to <br /> limited hours and restricted use. <br /> • The need for more community outreach and in person meetings with members of the <br /> business connnunity and community members at large. <br /> It was agreed that the Library would investigate options for addressing the concerns raised at the <br /> meeting. In order to move forward in this area, a sub-committee of trustees should be <br /> established at the next board meeting. A more detailed report of meeting goon issues Will be <br /> developed and shared with the committee members. <br /> The monthly Mashpee Cares meeting was held at the Library on February 16, and focused on <br /> preparations for the lurch launch event. At the 11Th meeting the results of the student survey <br /> will be presented to cone aun.ity members. Along with other coalition members, 1 will serve as a <br /> facilitator at the meeting. Attendance at the March meeting is expected to increase significantly <br /> and help deme the strategic direction of the grout going forward. <br /> On March 1, I attended the Cape Cod and Island Library Association board meeting. CCILA <br /> has been approached by the Massachusetts Library System to take a leadership role in <br /> developing trainingrograms that will meet the needs of Trustees, Friends groups, and library <br /> staff. It has become increasingly difficult for libraries to sure staff members for long blocks of <br /> time to attend the free training sessions offered by the state. Although the topics are relevant, <br /> and the training much needed, it is sometimes impossible to send employees for an entire <br /> daylong event. CCILA is working with the MLS to bang more training opportunities to the <br /> Cape Cod region, and at least eliminate the challenge-of long travel tines. <br /> It was decided that securing adequate ting for Library Trustees-on a regional level is the first <br /> priority,followed by staff training, and then training for Friends groups. It was acknowledged <br /> thatood management be at the Trustee level, and without access to.up to date resources and <br /> g � <br /> materials, library operations suffer. <br /> On March 6,, the CLAMS computer system was knocked out-of service by.a malfunctioning <br /> server. Service remained down throughout the,Cape for virtually to whole days,which <br /> unpacted our ability to serve patrons. Books and materials cannot be checked out, renewed, <br /> checked in,and the public computers cannot be accessed when the CLAMS system is out of <br /> service. Staff was required to process transactions by hand, and then later enter all of-the <br /> information into the computer system when it carne back online. This was.a particularly <br />
