< Web-based GIS besides Cable account funds, but have had no success to date. The Town
Planner and Town Manager encouraged me to write this proposal to you.
Given that widespread use and benefits will be provided in using the new GIS data and accessing
both the existing and new data (along with any existing digital data that a Town Department has
and would like to add to the web-browser based GIS), I believe that the Cable account funds
would be appropriate for this project. The use of the Cable Account funds would greatly assist in
implementing this very important aspect of the 2003 GIS Implementation Status Report,
providing GIS data to all Town users and the general public. This is an exciting prospect,
especially since it coincides with the availability of the new GIS data. The web-based GIS also
can be integrated into the Town's newly designed Web Site.
I encourage each of you to check out the various links to the web-based GIS sites of the three
vendors that have been provided in the Web-Based Intranet/Internet GIS options report. I can
provide each of you a digital copy, so that you are able to just `click' on the links, if you give me
your email address. For those interested in the GIS Implementation Status Report, I can provide
you a copy as well.
If there are any questions about this proposal, the technology and/or the GIS planimetric
mapping update project, please feel free to contact me at (508) 539-1400 ext. 522 or via email at
ersmith ,ci.mashpee.ma.us.
Enclosure: The Town of Mashpee Web-based GIS initiative: Report on the options available
to Develop and Implement a Web-Based Intranet/Internet GIS
Cc: Joyce Mason, Town Manager
David DelVecchio, MIS Director
Tom Fudala, Town Planner
3
