There was consensus not to reference Human Rights, as
there was already a County Commission in place to address such issues. There was support for
referencing diversity and inclusivity. Ms. Waterman agreed with the purpose of Beverly's statement,
with a few adjustments, as well as statements 2 and 5. Ms. Waterman emphasized that the Committee
would not be in charge of adjudicating. It would be necessary to draft a new statement so as to avoid
confusion among the terms No Place for Hate, Affirmative Action and Human Rights. Ms. Wilson
liked the statement"to raise awareness and sensitivity to matters of human and civil rights." Ms.
Waterman suggested that all members bring their recommendations for a Committee title and mission
or purpose statement, to be considered at a future meeting. Committee members were in receipt of the
Beverly statement. Mr. Gonsalves shared thoughts regarding the youth and risks of shaming, related to
media, news, t.v. shows or parents. Mr. Gonsalves noted that a child left behind today, was a step back
in our future tomorrow. When asked about organized youth activities at the High School,Mr.
Gonsalves confirmed that there was a Gay Straight Alliance group.
ADDITIONAL.
