TOWN OF MASHPEE <br /> TENTATIVE SCHEDULE FOR THE FORMAL <br /> CABLE TELEVISION RENEWAL PROCESS <br /> EXPIRATION OF CURRENT LICENSE: OCTOBER 2, 1999 <br /> insert date <br /> Z ( ) <br /> + MediaOne requested Town to initiate formal cable television <br /> renewal process; and <br /> + -Board of Selectmen responded to MediaOne <br /> letter advising that ascertainment is starting. <br /> (Note: Town should review its files for this correspondence.) <br /> (II) January-September 1998 (1) <br /> + Cable Advisory Committee ("CAC") , if designated to work on <br /> the renewal process by the Board of Selectmen (2) , reviews <br /> Mediaone' s compliance to current Final License; and <br /> + Town clarifies and enforces current Final License provisions, <br /> if necessary; and <br /> + CAC begins planning for additional ascertainment hearings, <br /> etc. , by scheduling explicit dates for hearings, conducting <br /> surveys and departmental ascertainment, etc. <br /> + CAC prepares for public hearings to gather input regarding <br /> future cable services; <br /> + Town conducts one or more public hearings to gather community <br /> input (I suggest that these hearings be conducted before or <br /> after the summer months) ; <br /> + CAC conducts survey of cable subscribers; etc. <br /> (III) October-November 1998 <br /> + Town reviews public hearing record and survey results, if <br /> any, to prepare Request for Renewal Proposal ("RFP") to be <br /> sent to MediaOne; <br /> + Town starts drafting RFP; and <br /> + Town finalizes RFP and sends it to MediaOne. Response due by <br /> February 1, 1999 <br /> ------------------------------------------------------------------ <br /> (1) The Town will conduct its own ascertainment process pursuant to <br /> Section (II) above, then will work with the other 6 Cape towns on <br /> the rest of the process to reach agreement by October 1999 . <br /> (2) The Board of Selectmen should consider as soon as possible to <br /> what degree, if any, it wishes to appoint and designate such a CAC <br /> to work on the renewal process. If so, such a committee should be <br /> appointed quickly, with its role and duties specified in writing. <br />
