P. 0. Box 1365
Mashpee, MA 02649
May 11, 1998
Andrew H. Eliason, Chairman
Mashpee Cablevision Advisory Committee
16 Great Neck Toad North
Mashpee, SIA 02849
Dear Mr. liason:
I recently read of your Committee's activities vis a vis cable television to Mashpee and
! thought It would be appropriate for me to express to you a concern for the rates which
are being charged for cable TV by MediaOne In Mashpee.
On April 4, 1998 1 wrote to MediaOne regarding questions I had relative to the cable
Til provider's services. I enclose a copy of that letter which, to date, has not resulted In
any response from MediaOne. The question which l would like to refer to you Is that
which asks why Mashpee subscribers should be paying for the cable boxes I would
also ask why the remote should be charged for-#--while living in Winchester, l was able
to use my Til remote since no cable box was In use.
Subsequent to writing the April 4th letter, I inquired of friends living in Centerville of the
rates which they pay for cable TV also provided by MediaOne). I learned that they pay
less for what I believe are the same channels (i.e.,Basic, Cable 1 and Cable 2 and
have no cable boxes. Their charges are $29-17 per month. I pay $29.95 per month
L US $4.98 per month for 2 remotes and two cable boxes. As I note in the attached
letter, I believe it is inappropriate for me (and all Mashpee residents) to be charged for
the remotes and cable bones.
i
I arra hopeful that you might be able to clary this situation for me. I believe that
iledlane's failure to respond to ray letter Is irresponsible and I intend to pursue this
matter with the FCC 'rf I cannot get a rational explanation of what I see as blatent over-
charging for cable services.
I look forward to hearing from you regarding this matter.
Very truly yours,
Gineor 1 . 1I a1
F
T
F
