i <br /> Town of Mashpee <br /> Mashpee Conunons Advisory Committee <br /> Public Meeting <br /> September 2 , 1998 <br /> The Mashpee Commons Advisory Conunittee Meeting was called to <br /> order at aehpe Tower ilall, ,Conference Room 11 16 Great Neck Road <br /> North, Mashpee, Massachusetts at 7: 10 p.m. on September ber 2 , 1998 . <br /> The chairman, Kenneth Masters, presided. <br /> Committee Members present : Selectman Kenneth Masters; <br /> Robert Whritenour,, Executive 'Secretary; and -F. Thomas Fudala, <br /> Town Planner. <br /> Al'so present: Attorney Robert mills, moderator; Joe Stupa `, <br /> .Traffic Consultant - Duncan Wood, wastewaterConsultant; Arn l <br /> Chace and Dougl'a's ' -torrs, Mashpee hpee Commons Ltd. ,Partnership. <br /> NOTE: There were approximately ten 0 membe of -the <br /> public present; -this Public meeting was taped for television <br /> viewing. <br /> 'The Chairman opened -the Public -meeting and presented an <br /> Introductory: "Ire the fall. of 1995, -approximately three 8 <br /> gears ago, the Selectmen organized the first Mashpee Conmons <br /> Advisory Committee to -study the proposal for the expansion of <br /> Mashpee Co mons . The role of this Committee was to review the <br /> general concept plan and to make recommendations to the Sel-ectmen <br /> relative to -the -plan. In June of 1996 the Committee reported <br /> back to the Selectmen in a four page report which was <br /> up orti-ve of the conceptual plate., but which listed key areas of <br /> the plan which needed further study. To quote the June i,9, 1996 <br /> report, "The Committee feels that an expansion of the Vi l -age <br /> atmosphere created through the architecture of Mashpee Caranons in <br /> the introduction of housing, a hotel facility, and a pe-r o=ing <br /> arts center to this site will create a high quality focal point <br /> f or the area o our co�tur ity.. It will be appealing to both <br /> residents and visitor's alike. " <br /> After receiving the report from the Committee, the Selectmen <br /> in 1996 created a new Committee to take this report and work with <br /> Mashpee Cannons to addres's- the details of the program and review <br /> the areas of c one ern raised by the previous Commit,t e e. Of <br /> particular concern was some of -the potential impacts- v ich, have <br /> not re-ceived the full attention of regulatory bodies such as the <br /> financial impacts of such a development . The a-'or ,areas of the <br /> study for the current- committee, can- b - broken -into four (4) major. <br /> category-es, each of ,which will be -reported i-s ..evenin.g. 'They <br /> are tbe� aesthetic, issues'; traffJLc 'issues'; water- quality issues-, <br /> and financial is u.es--. over- the past gear- -t- e - ommitt-ee' as- <br /> reviewed these issues- with the assistance, of prof ssion.al <br /> consult:ant's and we, feel that enough -J:nformat-ion has -been, <br /> generat-ed t,o- bring, this proposal t-o. you-, t- e, voters-.
