J.E.LANDERS-CAULEY P.E.
civil-environmental engineering
P.O. Box 364
West Falmouth, MA 02574
(508)-540-7733; 508-540-3344 (fax)
Mashpee Board of Health August 12, 2008
Administrator
Town Hall
Great Neck Road
Mashpee Town Hall
Mashpee, MA 02630
Re: 129 Industrial Drive
Unit 5
Mashpee, MA
Administrator,
On behalf of our client we have analyzed the existing sewerage system design for its compliance with
Title V relative to unit 5. Below we offer these comments:
-The original design provided for six units and an office. Each of the units was calculated to be, on average,
1400sf. The office was to be I000sf.
-Each unit was to be used for a contractor's storage use area. The use anticipated was for a contractor to
assemble his employees in the mornings and assign them jobs for the day. At the close of the day they would
return to drop off equipment and then go home. In our design it was determined the average employer,
including himself, would have three or four people.
-We designed each unit to have a flow of 4*15=60gpd.
As our client is in the process of obtaining a special permit for unit five it is necessary to describe his
customary use and habits for performing his work. According to our client he works by himself. He generally
requires the owners of the cars to leave the car with him for the day and pick it up when contacts them. He does
not have a waiting room or a bathroom to serve the public. The clients are required to leave the car with him.
He provides repairs on an appointment basis. The service he provides is a low intensity service that does not
require appurtenant staffing or outsourcing.
The service proposed does not require the large consumption of water. The owner does not clean his
clothes on site. The equipment does not need to be washed. Any products that may come from the vehicle has
to be placed in a tight tank for off site removal.
The owner will require the use of a bathroom and a washbasin for himself. No other water consumption
related to the use of the on site sewerage disposal system is necessary. According to standard water
consumption uses it is estimated a single individual will use, in a service as this, between 15-30 gpd.
Unit 5 is approximately 2100sf. Based upon the original design it is the equivalent of 1.5 units or
budgeted for 90gpd use. Therefore, it is my opinion that if the special permit granting authority limits the use of
the unit as described by the applicant the sewerage disposal system will adequately service the intended use of
the unit.
If you have any questions please call or write our office.
ck Landers-Cauley, PE
