Goldberg and
Gilbert joined the meeting just following approval).
Library Project
'Rick Pomroy provided the Committee with a project update on the Library, which is attached to the
printed set of these minutes. In reviewing and discussing lid 's update, the following topics were
discussed at some length.
7th Edition of the Mate Building Code...Rick advised that the 7h Edition would be effective September
I". He said the subcommittee reviewed the pros and eons and it was decided it was in the best interests to }
take advantage of the 7hEdition Building Code, Rick said the only"con"was delaying the bidding
process two weeks and i.n view of what was to be gained this was no problem at all. Result will be
gaining more library space and a savings of$50,000 in construction costs. It will only cost$10,000 for
design services.
LEER Certification
If we get LEEK Certification, then the library would be one of the first libraries to be LEER
Certified in the state of Massachusetts. Rick added that if LEED tertifzed this would be a major
accomplishment for the torn,
• Steve Cook pointed out that a lot of things are already in the building; LEED costs already built
into the project.
• One of the concerns repeatedly voiced by the Committee was amount of paperwork and expense
involved and no guarantee LEER Certification would be granted, but Joyce Mason commented
that if it would be too costly we can pull back .
• Rick Pomroy said if documentation not completed properly then LEED Certification at risk.
Steve Cook said that Stewart Roberts has said he believes we can get in the 35 point range and if
some fall through,we'd still get LEEK Certification.
• Stewart Roberts would be responsible to do all LEEK paperwork—cost: approximately$20,000.
Jane Dolan addressed the Committee saying she personally commends the subcommittee on this decision.
