The bricks specified are a Stiles & Hart paver which is manufactured locally in Bridgewater, MA.
Stiles & Hart offers a Donation Brief Program wherein they work with the group to arrange and organize
the engraving prior to installation and they deliver the brick to the project. Stiles & Hart would meed the
engraving order no less than 8 weeks prior to the scheduled install date and then the brick could be installed
as part of the project. They can also engrave and deliver after the install date, but the Town would need to
provide the labor associated with the installation. Stiles and Hart charges $2,1.00 per brick for the brick,
engraving and delivery.
The cost to install the " asphalt base, " asphalt setting bed, brick installation, profit and overhead is
estimated at approximately $4.50 per brick. Therefore the total cost of the donation bricks including the
labor to install therm as part of the project is $25.50. In comparison; the same paver installed without the
engraving feature would be approximately $6.00 per brief.
I have spoken with the sales rep at Stiles & Hart (Devin Barry) and Kevin has seen donation brief programs
range in donation from $45.00 per brick on the low end and $200.00 per brick on the high end. He also
indicated that most effective donation programs have targeted donations in the $100.00 or less area.
As stated earlier; it appears that the most effective way to get this done would be to have as many of the
donation bricks as possible engraved prior to installation. To accomplish this and make sure that we have
bricks for installation, I would recommend that the brick paver be provided By Owner and installed by the
Contractor. The project specifications can be modified to reflect this during the bidding period through
addenda. The contractor would be responsible for the preparation of the area and installation of the paver
and the owner mould be responsible for providing the paver.
The exact deadline for the material to be delivered to the project will not be determined until after the GC is
awarded, but I would expect that the pavers would be one f the last items installed on the project and the
material would creed to be onsite by the encs of September 2009. This would mean that the supplier would
need the engraving particulars no latter than the end of Jure 2009 to be on-the safe side. This would give the
Friends a full 8 -months of campaigning if they started on November 1, 200 8. I would not recommend
starting the campaign until after the bids are in.
We should discuss this at our meeting on 9/17/08 in efforts to finalize this and make any modifications to
the plans if necessary.
Pomroy Associates—M shpee Library,Donation Bricks Page 1 of 1
