Highlights from his update include
the following
- Protocol for the Library Project. Dick Pomroy stated that Catherine Laurent has been
designated the point of contact for all communications, both from this commiftee to the town,
and from the town to the committee. Any and all questions/concerns regarding the library
building project will go through Catherine Laurent to Rick Pomroy, who will disseminate the
information to the appropriate project team member.
Access to the site. The contractor cannot start demolition until the waste management plan is
approved and in place.- Architect Roberts has indicated that the LEED certification process
is taking much more time than originally anticipated, and the $20,000 allocated for his time
on LEED certification may need to be revisited.
i open Issues. The Friends want to
ensure that the process is fully coordinated in order to avoid ending up with a hodge podge
of plaques and signs.
- Room Naming —Catherine Laurent. Catherine Laurent stated that the Friends of the
Library are creating an endowment for the neva library, and the question was raised by the
library subcommittee as to how the Planning and Construction committee wants the Friends'
contributions to be designated, i.e., memorial plaques, or furnishings. Joyce Mason stated
that the Town has approved $5,500,000 toward the new library, and that these funds will be
available for furnishings, and added that the taxpayers should not worry that their tax money
will be used for memorial plaques.
The cornmittee agreed that the room-naming donors' contributions should be used for the.
enhancement of library services, and not furnishings. Discussion then followed as to
whether there should be one lame.brass plaque at the entrance to the library, naming all
donors, or individual smaller memorial plaques at the entryway to the 12 donor-designated
t
