Boot{Securi sterni continued
for the system. He reminded everyone during the conversation that at first this item was not included at
all odginally in the budget and that it was one of the items he plugged in so that it was there if it was
going to be considered later on. Janice Mills asked: Are there systems at$50,,000? Rick said there are,
but they are archaic plus we have 2 entrances to cover. Going this way, you'd be using old technology.
Helene Ie 'oe said the old technology alerts you someone took something out;the new technology
identifies the item taken. Janice asked whether there was any give in the budget because she doesn't feel
it should be taken from the contingency find. Irving Goldberg suggested we put the infrastructure in now
and as we get close to the enol we can address then. Catherine Laurent reminded the Committee that there
are a few items where we will be getting credit—for instance Mashpee Commons. In addition,Rick
named some line items in the budget that we will have savings—namely,Room signage($50,000)and
Utility Co.Back Charges $10,000). Janice Mills said that was what she was looking for.
Rick Pomroy advised that we need to make a decision whether or not to install'the infrastructure. Irving
Goldberg pointed out that the security system has to be distanced away from any metal so because of
putting away from metal and handicap considerations it will be important to locating the infrastructure.
This will be an add-on for the architect; however Steve Cook said he didn't think it would be a lame
dollar amount at all. In discussing cost-saving benefits of having the system, the result was that while 2
additional staff are needed for reference desk and children's section, this could slow down adding staff to
the circulation desk in the near future. Gene Srrmargn said he would like to see costs because he would
not want to see infrastructure cost another$25,,000. frving Goldberg added that the real issue is what is
going to be the cost...architect for putting system in; and contractor estimates for running conduit
infrastructures.
Motion: Irving Goldberg motioned that the Subcommittee be given the authority to go forward
with the infrastructure based on contractor's and architect's cost; Joe Brait seconded the motion;
and it was unanimously passed.
Steve Cook said he will inform everybody of the pricing when received.
Old Business
Gene Smargon asked Rick whether or not the document omission money will be coning back to us. Rick
said as he explained and recommended we don't do anything now but wait until the end of the project and
then review and decide. Rick said for this omission he recommends just letting it go, but at the enol of the
project see what., if anything, else has to be addressed.
Cape Light Company...Steve Cook said they were going to give us hack money from the Fire Substation.
Rick said he will follow-up with.there.
Buck eRick went through and explained how he sets each lime item and reflects changes in line items.
The Committee agreed with his approach. Janice Mills asked if a particular item had a lot of dctails,
would they be on a separate sheet. Rick said he does handle detailed items in footnotes.
Cape Cod Alarm...'Rick informed Catherine that we have a proposal from them and within 2 months we
should contact therm.
Bricks...Rick suggested having some samples of bricks done with fictitious name(s)and putting the
samples at various points(such as town hall, library, etc.)for people to see.
Steve Cook mentioned that he received a call from David id Burton,Chairman of the Library Trustees, and
David was going to drop off a recommended proposal for a wall display, but Steve didn't receive it yet.
Helene said she would follow-up at next Trustee meeting.
