4 <br /> Alashpee Planning and Construction Committee .... <br /> Minutes of Meeting held,Tues ay,-September,2 ,,2111 <br /> Town HallMeeting Room I . <br /> Committee Members Present; Steve Cook,Irving Goldberg,Eugene Smargon,and Joe Krait. <br /> Absent: Janice Mills. <br /> f <br /> Also Present: Catherine Laurent,DPW <br /> Chairman Steve Cook called the meeting to order at 6:40 p.m. <br /> Approval of Minutes <br /> Joe Krait motioned to accept the minutes of the f leeting of September 8,2011 written;Eugene <br /> -Smargon seconded the notion. <br /> Vote: 4 Yes. <br /> Steve Cook,yes. <br /> Irving-Goldberg,yes. <br /> Gene Smargon,yes. <br /> Joe Krait,yes. <br /> Old Business <br /> Catherine Laurent provided updates on the Town Solar;Green Community; and Roof projects: <br /> Solar Projects n Town Building <br /> Catherine reported that the High School is tip and running and in less than 6 days they already generated <br /> about 65 kilowatts of electricity. 'Catherine said at this rate about one-third of the 61eetric6J usage at the <br /> High School will be provided so we still have to work on conserving power. Catherine said we-are still <br /> paying for electricity generated but have a locked in rate of 12 cents instead of 17 cents so we wil see a- <br /> little-hit of savings-but when we purchase the system then will.-have electricity at no cost. <br /> Catherine advised that she is working with the High School on ways to conserve electricity such as shut <br /> off-lights-when-leaving-room. don't open-windows while'heat-running; etc. Joe Brait-suggested-hat mast <br /> loss is in the hallways so perhaps motion lights would work at the school in hallway areas. Joe said the <br /> Sheriff s Department trnent shut off every other light as a savings. Gene Smargon suggested PCC get together <br /> -with-school members to-discuss-wags-of-conserving power. PCC T e bens-agreed this would-be. ,good <br /> approach. First,Catherine is to contact Cape Light Compact and get some information from them on <br /> recommended power-saving approach and thea PCC can reach out to the School Committee. This will be <br /> 'placed-on next month'-s -C-agenda for review. <br /> Catherine reported that installation is complete at the Senior Center and waiting for NStar approval. She <br /> ,showed z-photograph-of-the,completed-construct-ion. She-said-it is-less-than 10-KW- . <br /> Catherine advised that the contractor was fine with doing DPW rather than Town Hall but said since <br /> Town eras requestinglocation thea Town would be responsible for,engineering-costs. In view-of that,it <br /> was decided that if contractor can guarantee Town Hall roof then they'll do Town Hall. Catherine will <br /> advise PCC of final outcome. <br />
