MASHPEE SCHOOL COMMITTEE � REGULAR MEETING - JUNE 1, 1994 PAGE <br /> A motion was made by Dr. Petti and seconded by Mr. Consalvi <br /> to name the high school facility "Mashpee High school" and <br /> place a sign above the wing or area where the seventh and <br /> eighth grade classes will be housed. <br /> VOTE: Unanimous <br /> 7 ,2 Reorganization of Elementary Grades - Due to ever-growing <br /> enrollments and the desire to maintain a quality education <br /> in Mashpee, Dr. DeMoura had presented a plan to <br /> administrators and staff whereby three kindergarten through <br /> Grade 6 schools instead of the current grade split with <br /> Grades 1, 2 , and 3 at the Coombs school and K, and Grades 4- <br /> at the Middle school. M . Gibbs suggested waiting until <br /> the 1995-1996 school year to implement this plan so that the <br /> pros and cons weighed and details ironed out. <br /> Some of the school Committee wanted to have a plan in place <br /> however, Mr. Paxton opposed voting on the plan for now as h <br /> felt there were too Many unanswered questions which included <br /> hiring additional staff while Ms. Gibbs felt cost analysis <br /> should be done before taking any action* <br /> On a motion made by Ir, Consalvi and seconded by Dr. Petti, <br /> the Committee voted to approve 'Option Four A" (see below) <br /> with districting commencing 1995-1996 school year. <br /> VOTE: favor - Mrs. Mills, Mr. Consalvi, and Dr. Petti; <br /> opposed am Mr. Paxton; abstained - Ms. Gibbs. <br /> Option Four Aur - KCC and MMS will each accommodate students <br /> in grades - units) . <br /> Pros <br /> Equity of resources <br /> Could reduce transportation costs <br /> More personal relationships between students and staff. <br /> . supported by research <br /> . Insures instructional continuity <br /> . Can be phased <br /> . Allows for ,intergrade peer support <br /> Promotes the development of strand programs <br /> Cons <br /> will require districting <br /> organizational change will require the movement of several <br /> classrooms <br /> Motion made by Mrs. Mills, seconded by Mr. Consalvi, the <br /> Committee asked Dr. DeMoura to appoint a committee <br /> consisting of parents to work on the reorganization details . <br /> VOTE: [unanimous <br />
