-2-
Reports:
Ava updated us on her work on the Signage Project that she has been working on for over two years.
She stated that her research is nearing completion. The next step will be to get bids for the design and
production of the signs that will used to mark historical places in Mashpee.
Ava reported on her presentation to the CPC regarding the Veterans Park project that she, Richard,
and Earl Mills, Chairman of the Historic District Commission, have been working on. She informed us
that the CPC approved a request of$32,500 towards phase one and part of phase two to be voted on
at the May Town Meeting.
Rich reported that he will submit a second application for State funds in the amount of$15,000 to
SHRAB which will be due on January 15th. Their committee has been interviewing several local
businesses to create a Master Plan for the Veterans Park extension, engrave the names of all Mashpee
soldiers and sailors of all wars both on the back of the existing black granite Memorial stone and on
other memorials to be placed throughout the park extension. In addition, they plan to add a few
benches, a memorial to the Mashpee whalers, and an Indian Village display on the Attaquin lot. They
plan to meet with Catherine Laurent, Director of the DPW, in January 2018.
Ann reported on our present budget expenditures. Rosemary requested that we join the New England
Historical and Genealogical Society since the funds are available under our Memberships account.
Nancy offered to write the report for the Mashpee Historical Commission printed in the 2017 Town
Annual Report. She will submit the report to Ava by January 15th.
Ava proposed, and it was approved, that we hold our first meeting next spring on May 201.
Ava asked for a vote on accepting the new list of Roles and Responsibilities be adopted. Brian made
the motion to accept and Nancy seconded. The motion was approved unanimously. She will send out
the new Roles and Responsibilities document in April for commissioners to request their role for the
upcoming year. She requested us to think about the work of the Commission, and what role each of us
could assist with. We will discuss it again at our first meeting in May 2018.
Ava also will be sending out monthly "MHC Updates" to all members during the winter so everyone will
be kept up to date on MHC activities.
Brian made a motion to adjourn the meeting at 6:20pm, and it was seconded by Nancy. Our next
meeting will be held on Friday, January 5th, at 1:00pm, at the Archives.
The Archives will be closed to the public on December 28th.
