Evan Lehrer, the Town Planner
participated in this approach which requires municipalities to be the lead applicant. The SPB would be
named as the secondary applicant.
The proposal was noted to demonstrate the urgency of proper maintenance of the Spit as it relates to the
economy and industry of the Town of Mashpee. If the grant application is supported by the Board of
Selectmen, the Town Manager would be the named designee for the project and the Town Planner would
be the primary contact.
The grant through the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Seaport Economic Council seeks $1 million to
add capacity to the efforts of Save Popponesset Bay to maintain the Spit and to preserve Popponesset
Bay. There are no funds required from the Town of Mashpee to support the grant initiative. Funding
would allow for the trucking of sand during the winter months to increase the dune areas.
Motion made by Selectman Cahalane to approve the Joint Grant Application to the Seaport
Economic Council as referenced.
Motion seconded by Selectman Sherman.
VOTE: Unanimous. 5-0.
Roll Call Vote:
Selectman O'Hara, yes Selectman Cotton, yes Selectman Sherman, yes
Selectman Cahalane, yes Selectman Gottlieb, yes Opposed, none
