9 <br /> Board of Selectmen. <br /> Minutes <br /> April 23, 2018 <br /> APPOINTMENTS & HEARINGS <br /> Update on Mashpee Commons Events, Mary Derr: <br /> Mary Derr, Marketing Director of Mashpee Commons reviewed the 2018 schedule of events with <br /> members of the Board of Selectmen. Many of the events planned are consistent with past years. A <br /> Community Party will be held on May 6 1 to kick-off the season. Of note is the Arts Festival in August. <br /> Artisans will be set up at pop-up stations underneath l Ox 10 canopy tents throughout the Commons. <br /> It was announced the Mashpee by Design initiative is ongoing. The pop-up design studio is open from <br /> May 4th to May 91h from. 9:00 a.m, to 9:00 p.m. at 17 Market Street. Topics of discussion from May 4"'to <br /> May 6th include; Economic Development& Jobs, Sustainability &Resiliency, Mobility & Parking, <br /> Trails, Recreation, & Active Living, Parks, Squares & Open Space, Housing, Understanding Form Based <br /> Codes and Density & Design. Information on the Topic Meetings can be found on the website: <br /> www.inashpeecommons.com/futLire. <br /> COMMUNICATIONS & CORRESPONDENCE <br /> Letter to Tribal Council Chairman: <br /> As a result of a Board of Selectmen Executive Session meeting on April 17, 2018, Town Manager <br /> Rodney C. Collins distributed a letter issued by the Board of Selectmen to Cedric Cromwell, Chair of the <br /> Mashpee Wampanoag Tribal Council requesting an amendment to the legislation being proposed with <br /> respect to the Mashpee Reaffirmation Act. The letter dated April 18, 2018 was also noted to be mailed to <br /> the entire Massachusetts delegation, Representatives, Senator's and to all co-sponsors of the proposed <br /> bill. (Enclosure) <br /> It is the Town's desire to ensure the mutual commitments made by the Town and Tribe in the <br /> Intergovernmental Agreement (IGA) are preserved with respect to the Tribe's land in trust proceedings. <br /> The language of the proposed legislation must include the Tribe's agreement to: <br /> • Waive and release any and all claims, rights, interests and/or entitlements relating to real property <br /> located within the geographical boundaries of the Town of Mashpee and owned by private (non- <br /> governmental) property owners or by the Town of Mashpee, its agencies, commissions and <br /> authorities; <br /> • Not apply for, nor consent to, trust status for, or otherwise exercise control over or limit access to, <br /> any real property owned by the Town of Mashpee, with the exception of the parcels described in <br /> Exhibits A and B of the IGA; and <br /> • Not to construct or operate a casino conducting either Class II or Class III gaming authorized <br /> under IGRA within the Town. <br />
