M. HPEE PUBLIC SCHOOLS <br /> SPECIAL MEETING <br /> MARCH 27r 1996 <br /> Minutes <br /> Attendees : Chair Janice Mills, Stephen Paxton, David Consalvi, <br /> Kathleen Lynch, and Theresa Cook. Superintendent of Schools Dr. <br /> Lincoln A, DeMoura was also in attendance. <br /> The special meeting was called to order by Mrs. Mills at 4 : 32 p.m. <br /> in the Office of the Superintendent in Torn Hall. <br /> Mrs. Mills said the purpose of this meeting was to discuss the FY7 <br /> budget and asked for a motion to move into executive session to <br /> discuss remuneration. Motion made by Mrs. Cook, seconded by Mrs. <br /> Lynch to move into executive session at 4 :35 p.m. <br /> Moll. Call Note: In favor - Mrs. Mills, Mr. Paxton, Mr. Consalvi, <br /> Mrs. Lynch, and Mrs. Cook; opposed - none. <br /> The special meeting reconvened t 4 :58 p. . <br /> Mrs. Mills asked the Committee if it would be possible, in a <br /> gesture of cooperation with the Board of Selectmen and Finance <br /> Committee, to cut the FY97 budget to $8,400,000 -- down $100, 000 <br /> from the Committee's vote of March 6, 1996. At this point, Dr. <br /> DeMoura distributed printouts depicting possible cuts from Draft <br /> totaling $65,560 and discussed each line item. An additional <br /> $43,781 ire cuts from Draft #9 had to be made to bring the figure <br /> down to $8,400,000. <br /> Due to the fact that the School Department is exempt from paying <br /> taxes, Mrs. Lynch suggested looking into not paying gasoline taxes <br /> Discussion followed on the elimination of instrumental lessons <br /> where Mir. Paxton suggested contacting Leisure Services who could <br /> investigate offering such lessons. Dr. DeMoura will contact Mr, <br /> Frederick, Director of Leisure services, to discuss. Mrs. Lynch <br /> also thought perhaps a► grant to Willowbend could be written to aid <br /> in the instrumental lessons. <br /> After discussion was completed on the above, a motion was made by <br /> Mr. Consalvi, seconded by Mrs. Lynch, to recommend an FY97 school <br /> budget of $8,400, 000 . <br /> Mr. Paxton then made a motion to amend Mr. Cons l ifs motion. The <br /> amended motion would recommend $8,200, 000 with an additional <br /> $200,000 from free cash that would list one-time costs. <br /> His amended motion was seconded by Mrs. Lynch. <br />
