MASHPEE SCHOOL COMMITTEE - REGULAR MEETING - SEPTEMBER 4 . 1996 PAGE 2 <br /> Although it is too late to install portable classrooms now as <br /> it would take several_ weeks to do so as well as obtain <br /> permits, Mrs. Thompson said the School committee should have <br /> looked into installing then earlier. Mrs. Lynch said the <br /> School committee was unable to plan for the portable <br /> classrooms because the School Building Committee did not <br /> instruct the School Committee to make other plans. on the <br /> other hand, if arrangements for portable classrooms had been <br /> made and the high school opened on time, thea the School <br /> Department would be liable for unnecessary payments for the <br /> portable classrooms and the school budget is unable to fund <br /> such an expense. <br /> Nis. Macdonald said since the beginning of her election <br /> campaign an alternative plan was a major concern of here but <br /> she was conistenly told that such a plan would not been <br /> needed because the high school would o1jen on time. <br /> Phyllis Sprout addressed the Committee on assistance in <br /> obtaining information for upcoming Falmouth parent meetings. <br /> She said she had attended a meeting in the spring at which <br /> time she expressed interest In attending more meetings <br /> however, notification was never received of those meetings. <br /> She asked of Falmouth parent meetings should be posted on <br /> Channel 55. Dro DeMoura agreed to do sof <br /> IV• Mr. Paxton acknowledged the pre -school program's recent <br /> cknowl- accreditation by the National Academy of Early Childhood <br /> dgemens Programs through the efforts of Alex Wilkinson, Janice Page <br /> and members of the staff. <br /> Also, he mentioned a memorial service to be held for William <br /> Jones, a dedicated volunteer in the school system, to be held <br /> on September 5 at 10:00 a.m. in Christ the Kang Church. He <br /> said Mr. Jones had been ars active participant in two school <br /> building committees,, <br /> .As today was the first day of school., Mr. Paxton thanked all � <br /> those involved from the admini tration to the teachers and <br /> custodians for their help in maEking the opening of the 1996- <br /> 1997 school year a success. He complimented Dr. DeMoura for <br /> teacher concerns that had been addressed. <br /> Lastly, Mr. Paxton acknowledged a letter from the American <br /> Heart Association, Massachusetts Affiliatefs 1996 Jump Rope <br /> for Heart Program in which Mashpee was recognized to receive <br /> the state award as -the State Champion.
