Y <br /> MASHPEE SCHOOL COMMITTEE FY97 BUDGET MEETING - DECEMBER 19, 1997 <br /> PAGE TWO <br /> investigate the Towns procedures in their hiring for a Network <br /> Administrator. <br /> Discussion followed on the alternative education program, Mrs. <br /> Lynch expressedconcerns about having one teacher teaching <br /> different learning levels, i.e. , regular education to special. <br /> education, Dr, DeMoura will check into the Collaborative program <br /> with alternative programs. <br /> The hiring of an alternative education assistant followed. .lifter <br /> much discussion, a notion was made by Mrs. Mills, seconded by Nis. <br /> Macdonald to post this position. <br /> VOTE: Unanimous <br /> Mrs. Lynch discussed the 3100 account, Attendance, and said she <br /> felt $2, 700 for three schools for a substitute call service was <br /> a high expense. Mr. Williams defended the expense saying it <br /> alleviated much of a principal`s responsibility in finding a <br /> substitute teacher. <br /> Discussion then followed on heating and electricity expenses for <br /> the high school. Dr. DeMoura said the School Department will be <br /> taking over the payment of these high school expenses as of <br /> December 17, 1996, the day the high school was fully opened. With <br /> the cost of electricity reaching as high as $18, 00 permonth' . the <br /> School Department 'could be faced with a shortfall. Mrs. Lynch <br /> asked shy is not the contractor, Stone, paying for hese bills as <br /> had been agreed upon months ago. Mrs. Mills said "theylre <br /> reneging. They also agreed to have the school finished by the <br /> beginning of September. " <br /> Dr. DeMoura informed the Committee that the School Department is <br /> now unable to do our own plowing as the truck is too old to' handle <br /> the plowing needs for the school system. The Department of Public <br /> Tors will assist with they are available. Because of the <br /> uncertainty of t-he DPW assistance, quote's were obtained for the <br /> plowing of the school areas. Bids carne in at $45 per hour,. <br /> Mrs.. Lynch noted that because the high school grounds are not ready <br /> fret, would the grounds maintenance contract commence January 1, <br /> 1997 as the contract states Dr. DeMoura will bring this issue to <br /> the attention of the School Building Committee. <br /> The Committee agreed to meet on Thursday, January 16, 1997 7 <br /> p.m. to discuss the PY98 budget. This meeting will be held- in the <br /> School Committee Conference Room at the high school, B103 . <br /> Another meeting was set for Thursday, February 2 , 1997 at 7 :00 <br /> . . to discuss the FY97 budget. This meeting will also be held in <br /> B103 at the high school. <br />
