r
MASHPEE SCHOOL COMMITTEE EY9 7 BUDGET MEETING DECEMBER 19, 1996
PAGE THREE
Discussion followed on late buses As a result of a concern
mentioned at the last regular School Committee meeting, Dr. DeMoura
conducted a local survey of school districts and their late haus
status. After much discussion, a motion was made by Mrs. Mills,
seconded by Mrs. Lynch, to provide the -following late bus schedules
to following a perimeter route;
1 bias - Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday - from high school. - 2 : 15 ppm
1 bus - Tuesday, Thursday - from high school - m
1 bus - Wednesday - from elementary school - 3: 30 pry
NOTE: Unanimous
Dr. DeMoura discussed correspondenc6 from the Department o
Education regarding "Net School Spending Requirements for EY9 and
IFY9 0 " In apt, the Department of Education says the Mashpee Public
Schools should have spent an additional $288,628 last year. Dr.
DeMoura said he became aware of the shortfall when completing the
end-of-the-year report but thought the town f s excess debt made up
for that shortfall. Dr. DeMoura said that most towns who do- not
spend enough on their school must make up for the shortfall the
following year. Mashpee schools should not expect to see more
money this year. He said the town cave "us more money for the high
9
school" and as a result the town is spending much more on the
schools this year than the state is requirin .
The last topic mentioned this evening was one brought up initially
at the December regular School Committee meeting. Mr. Paxton
questioned the location of the Laidlaw dispatcher during school
hours. In conversations with Gerry Cameron of Laidlaw, Dr, DeMoura
was told that Laidlaw is seeking a new employee for their Mashpee
office and in the meantime, morning calls are received in Mashpee
while afternoon calls are received at their lotion in Hyannis.
Mr. Cameron assured Dr. DeMoura that ratter will be resolved by
November 1, 1997 .
Motion to adjourn the meeting was made by Mrs. Cook, seconded b
Mrs. dills at 9: 17 p.m.
vo Unanimous
Respectfully submitted,
5 Marjorie R, O`Brien
School Committee secetary
k
