MASHPEE PUBLIC SCHOOLS <br /> REGULAR MEETING <br /> OCTOBER 7, 1991 <br /> Minutes <br /> Attendees: school Committee - Chairwoman Kathleen Lynch, Theresa Cook, Maryanne <br /> Macdonald, and Stephen Paxton. Janice lulls was asnt this evening. Also in attendance <br /> was superintendent of Schools Dr-. Lincoln A. DeMoura. <br /> 4 <br /> 1. Call Meeting The regular meeting was called to order by Mrs. Lynch at 7:05 p.m. <br /> To Order in high school room -103. <br /> II. Approvalof 1.1 Reg Meeting of September 3, 1997 -- Motion made by Mr. <br /> Minutes Paxton, seconded by Ms. Macdonald, to approve the minutes of the <br /> regular meeting of September 3, 1997. <br /> OTE: .Unanimous <br /> 1.2 Executive session of September 3 199 - Motion made by <br /> IIT. Macdonald, seconded by Mr. Paxton, to approve the minutes of <br /> the executive session ofSeptember 3, 1997, <br /> VOTE1 Unanimous <br /> 1.3 Special Meeting of September 17, 1997 - Motion made by <br /> Mrs. Cook, seconded by Ms. Macdonald, to a r Ve the minutes of <br /> the special meeting ofSeptember 17, 1997. <br /> NO'T'E: Unanimous <br /> III. Public Forum Mrs. Phyllis sprout addressed the Committee on last month's <br /> discussion regarding the strategic plan as addressed at last. <br /> month's school Committee meeting. <br /> Catherine Haskell expressed concerns regarding the last period of <br /> the school day knorn as "Directed Learning." she said she did <br /> not understand why students were not allowed to do homework <br /> during the 5 -minute period and felt it was a waste of time. Dr. <br /> DeMoura said that under state education guidelines, students are <br /> not permitted to do homework during school hours. He continued <br /> saying that the directed learning was designed for students to <br /> work on assigned projects with a teacher in the classroom to <br /> answer any questions or offer their assistance. <br />
