7 f <br /> MASHPEE SCHOOL COMMITTEE - REGULAR MEETING - OCTOBER , 1997 PAGE 2 <br /> High School Principal John Williams said last year the high school <br /> administrators worked on developing a series of electives for Grade <br /> and 8 students during the last period, but with the budget cuts, <br /> there were few options. He suggested that students who do not <br /> have a project to do could read. He said the students are offered <br /> electives during the last period which include band, chorus, and <br /> the History of the Mashpee Wampanoag class. Mr. Williams <br /> stressed that money is a factor,in offering students more electives <br /> during the last period. <br /> Mrs. Lynch asked that Mr. Williams and the high school staff work <br /> on additional options while the school Committee will investigate <br /> other funding alternatives. <br /> 7.4 Facilities report-- school Facilities Supervisor Don cook addressed <br /> the Committee on maintenance issues. They include the following: <br /> KCC <br /> Progress on HVAC design work. <br /> Conceptual drawings for library, gym and cafeteria are <br /> complete. ,' <br /> Analyzing of data for classrooms and remaining areas t <br /> produce conceptual drawings. <br /> QRashnet S oo s: <br /> • Due to recent complaints regarding splintering from the <br /> playground equipment, Mr. Cook has requested the following <br /> } from various contractors; <br /> 1. refinishing all of the exposed wooden surfaces by sanding <br /> and applyingnon-toxic grater-base preservatives. <br /> 2. Replacing all of the wood that cannot be repaired by <br /> refinishing. <br /> 3. Annual cost to apply preservative as to prevent weathering <br /> and splintering from reoccurring. <br /> • Add four new fire lame signs along sidewalk in bus lane per <br /> request of the ll ashpee Police Department. <br /> • Replacement of tree roof top heating unit and one heating/air <br /> conditioning unit is completed. <br />
