MAS EE SCHOOL COMMITTEE <br /> CONTINUATION of REGULAR MEETING of OCTOBER 7, 1997 <br /> I <br /> OC'T'OBER 22, 1997 <br /> Minutes <br /> Attendees: Vice Chairwoman Theresa Cool, Maryanne Macdonald, Janice Mills, and <br /> Stephen Paxton. Chairwoman Kathleen Lynch was absent this evening. <br /> Also in attendance was superintendent of Schools Dr. Lincoln A. DeMoura. <br /> 11 Call Meeting Vice Chairwoman Mrs. Cook called the meeting to order at 7:04 <br /> o Order p.m. in room -103 at the high school. <br /> 11. Report of the 7.6 Grades 4 and 6 Recommendations -- Dr. DeMoura reviewed <br /> Superintendent a meting that was held with grade 4 and grade 6 teachers, <br /> administrators and special needs teachers. Topics included class <br /> size, number of inclusion students and support services. <br /> Motion made by Mrs. Mills, seconded by IVIS. Macdonald, to <br /> approve the superintendent's recommendation of hiring six half- <br /> time teaching assistants. <br /> Dr. DeMoura explained that after discussions with the principals, <br /> it was decided to eliminate hiring only teaching assistants for <br /> grades 4 and 6 and let the principals consider- the needs for all <br /> grades. It would be up to the discretion of the principals on <br /> placement of the teaching assistants. <br /> Mr-s. Cook asked if the School Department could "absorb" these <br /> teaching assistants next year into other teaching assistant <br /> positions? Dr. DeMoura responded saying most, if not all, could <br /> remain but that is difficult to predict. The above recommendation <br /> would be a temporary fix for this year." <br /> TE: In favor - Mrs. Mills, Mrs. Cook; opposed - Ms. Macdonald, <br /> Mr.:Paxton. The notion did not carry. <br /> 7.7 'Medicaid Billing and Remittance Report - Dr. DeMoura <br /> reported that $315,681.82 has been received over the past five <br /> years in Medicaid although $736,871.43 has been requested. Dr. <br /> DeMoura will check on the o balance in the "Remittance - *total -- <br /> Y 1998" column. <br />
