i <br /> SCHOOL COMMITTEE -- CONTINUATION OF OCTOBER 7, 1997 REGULAR MEETING <br /> OCTOBER 22, 1997 PAGE 2 <br /> 7.8 Use of Buildings - Custodial overtire - Dr. IeMoura <br /> explained the situation of custodial overtime this past summer. <br /> ]due to heavy utilization of the elementary schools by community <br /> organizations this past summer, the custodians were unable to <br /> appropriately clean the schools for teachers and students. <br /> Teachers were unable to access Ch it rmdue to the cla sr om <br /> usage of outside organizations. He stressed that he would not like <br /> that to happen in the future. He further noted that a total o <br /> $7,961.30 was expended by the school Department in custodial <br /> overtime this summer which was not budgeted. He feels those <br /> outside organizations should be responsible for custodial fees. <br /> Dr. DeMoura recommended the following changes in facility usage <br /> during the summer of1998: <br /> 1. That one custodian be on duty during the day in each school <br /> to clean rooms, lavatories, cafeteria and to move equipment. <br /> This person'would be paid by the organizations using the <br /> facility. <br /> 2. All second shift custodians remain on second shift. <br /> 3. All usage of the schools must end by August 8, 19980 <br /> . Classroom usage will not exceed 20% of the buildings' <br /> x capacity. <br /> . The usage of the schools during the summer r must be <br /> approved by the school Facilites supervisor. <br /> The above in ori ration will be iscu sed during a joint meeting <br /> with the Leisure services Advisory Council, School Committee and <br /> Board. of Sel ct .en liaisons' t a meeting scheduled f r November <br /> , 1997. <br /> 7.9 FY9 7 .Reimbursement, 'Tuition of State Wards - Dr. DeMoura <br /> said i lashp e will receive $47,078 beginning in FY9 . <br /> 7.10 State Assessment Program - Dr. I; eMoura said the .MCAS <br /> (Massachusetts Comprehensive Assessment System) testing will <br /> take dace during the week ofNovember 3 for grades 5, 9, and 11. <br /> i <br />
