MASHP E SCHOOL COMMITTEE — SPECIAL MEETING - MARCH 9, 1998 <br /> PAGE TWO <br /> Mr. O'Rourke asked for a budget update. Mrs. Lynch answered that the Board <br /> f Selectmen and Finance Committee have recommended an FY99 budget of <br /> $11,1002000. <br /> However, Mrs. Cook stressed that Executive Secretary Robert whr'~itenour's <br /> presentation was based on theworst-case scenario. <br /> Another issue raised was a memo received from the Chief of Police William <br /> Przybylek in which he states the Police Department has received $45,000 to <br /> allocate from the Cops and Kids grant. In order to alleviate juvenile <br /> 49nuisances" Chief Przbylek suggested that a Skateboard Park be paced in the <br /> tennis courts currently located behind the Quashnet schools. <br /> Discussion ensued from school Committee and school Council members. <br /> Some areas of concern were: proximity to the woods, supervision, liability. <br /> Motion made by Mr. Paxton, seconded by Ms. Macdonald to support, as written <br /> by Chief Przybylek's request for a skateboard Park behind the Quashnet <br /> Schools. <br /> More discussion followed related to the same issues as noted above. <br /> After further discussion, Mr. Paxton rescinded his motion, and Ms. Macdonald <br /> rescinded her second. Mr. Paxton then made a motion to support the concept <br /> of the Cops and Kids program with the possibility of looking into sites more <br /> appropriate than behind the Quashnet schools.
