MASHPEE PUBLIC SCHOOLS <br /> SPECIAL MEETING <br /> APRIL 1 , 1998 <br /> Minutes <br /> Attendees: Chairwoman Kathleen Lynch, Theresa Cook, Maryanne Macdonald, Janice <br /> Mills, and Stephen Paxton. Also in attendance was Superintendent of Schools Dr. <br /> Lincoln A. DIloura. <br /> I. Call Meeting to Order - The special meeting was called to order by Mrs. Lynch <br /> at 7:09 .m. in high school room B 103. <br /> Mrs. Lynch asked if there were any public forum issues to discuss from the <br /> audience. There were none. <br /> II. FY99 Budget Discussions <br /> 2.1 Review Recommendations to Achieve Budget of $11-9600,000 - Dr. <br /> Del oura opened the discussion stating the School Committee had voted <br /> on an $11,600,000 FY99 budget at their joint meeting with the Board of <br /> Selectmen and Finance Committee ofMarch 30, 1998. Included in the <br /> packet was a printout that shoved an actual figure of $11,561,674 (draft <br /> #5) which includes the administration's recommendations (Exhibit . <br /> Discussion items were: <br /> 1. placing certain programs in the Community School account. <br /> 2. elimination ofthe elementary music lessors, no Art History <br /> Dr. DeMoura said all items included in Exhibit A are important, however, <br /> it is imperative to stay as far array from the classroom as possible when <br /> making reductions, <br /> 3. Oracle 1 teaching positions and class size. Mrs. Lynch stressed her <br /> concern stating there will be nine classes of first graders with less <br /> students than the second grade which has eight classes. She does <br /> not want to post the position, then dire an individual for that <br /> position, then discover there are "lopsided" grades. Also, student <br /> retentions are an unknown factor at this point in the school year so <br /> determining class size is difficult. <br />
