MASHPEE SCHOOL COMMITTEE - SPECIAL MEETING - APRIL I 14, 1998 PACE 2 <br /> Discussion continued with Mrs. ynch's concern of 25 students per <br /> is in grade 2 next year. <br /> Mr. Paxton expressed frustration stating, "It's a big numbers game, <br /> that's what it is. This is the problem I brought up with this <br /> reorganization before and I asked over and over again how we were <br /> going to resolve this problem and I never got an answer before we <br /> err moved a child. This is a problem and it continues to go on and <br /> n. <br /> Mrs. Lynch asked to have this issue paced on the May regular <br /> School Committee agenda. <br /> Mr. Paxton questioned the special education van. Dr. DeMoura said <br /> here are two van requests. One was an acquisition and the other <br /> was a replacement. Mrs. Lynch asked if the van in the budget is an <br /> acquisition or replacement? Dr. DeMoura said it would be an <br /> acquisition. (The replacement van was included as part ofthe <br /> Capital Improvement requests.) Mr. Paxton asked ghat determines <br /> who rides the special education van? Dr. DeMoura said all re- <br /> school children, some children who have educational plans that <br /> state they cannot ride a regular bus or children who have health <br /> problems. <br /> Discussion then focused on Exhibit A where positions were <br /> discussed. Dr. DeMoura said the most important thing is to identify <br /> the cuts specifically and placing them in priority order and then <br /> when the money becomes available, place them back in the budget <br /> in reverse order. <br /> Mrs. Lynch noted she would like to see the elementary music <br /> lessons and Art History returned to the budget if modes allow) as a <br /> first priority. <br /> Mrs. Lynch asked Dr. DeMoura if them is a projected surplus of <br /> funds at the end of the Year? Dr. DeMoura said most of the surplus <br /> would be in energy and possibly special education. <br /> Discussion then followed on music lessons for grades 4, 5, and 6. <br /> Mrs. Lynch suggested having them for grades 5 and 6. Mrs. Mills <br /> suggested having Leisure Services offer music lessons. Also <br /> discussed was having the Community school contribute the <br /> funding. <br />
