Mashpee Waterways Commission Minutes <br /> Mashpee Town Hall <br /> Minutes of the June 12"^, 2018 Meeting <br /> Chairman Bates called the meeting to order at 9:08 AM at the Mashpee Town Hall <br /> Present: Ken Bates, Don Barton,Stan Healy,Tim Leedham <br /> Absent:Steve Mone,Al Wickel, Don MacDonald <br /> Also in Attendance: Rick York, NRD, Catherine Laurent, DPW,Alec Turner, Harbormaster <br /> Minutes of the May 8th meeting were reviewed. Two revisions were noted by Rick York to the May 8 <br /> minutes. The loose float was secured at the Mashpee Neck Marina and Santuit Pond, with regards to <br /> water quality, it is monitored year-round. <br /> Tim Leedharn made a motion to approve the minutes of May 8,2018 and was 2^d by Stan Healy and <br /> unanimously approved. <br /> Communications and Correspondence: <br /> Ken Bates reported that the dredge invoice was received for the Popponesset Approach Channel which <br /> detailed the removal of 5225 cubic yards of spoil at a rate of$13 for a total of$67925.00. ($65,000 for <br /> Town and $2,925 for SPB). Stan Healy made a motion to approve the payment of this invoice and 2m by <br /> Don Barton. The motion was unanimously approved. <br /> Ken received an email from Rick York concerning a dock expansion for 70 Island Popponesset Road. The <br /> proposal includes significant dredging of sands that support quahog shellfish habitat. Rick York said this <br /> issue and the dredging spoils will have to be reviewed. <br /> Old Business <br /> Harbormaster Report: <br /> Alec Turner reported that he wrote a fine for a violation at Mashpee/Wakeby where a craft ran at high <br /> speed inside a safe swimming area. He also notes that on other waterways,traffic was average with no <br /> incidents to report. Further, he added no issues at Waquoit Bay. <br /> Ken Bates mentioned a situation where young people were parking in Fisherman's landing parking lot <br /> and there were complaints from fishermen because all spots were occupied. Ken said the <br /> Environmental Police will monitor with Town officials and PBA officials/security team.. <br /> Alec also mentioned an enforcement intervention concerning dock construction at a property owned by <br /> Mr.Thomas Smith on Monomoscoy Island. The dock construction was under a previous cease and <br /> desist order from Conservation. On a Sunday afternoon at 4:00 PM,Alec and staff were alerted and <br /> responded. The prohibited work was once again underway with one worker attempting to jet pilings <br /> into position in open water. The worker was told to cease all activity. Alec expressed that the defiant <br /> nature of this repeat infraction remains a concern. <br />
