Selectman Marsters: America and leave the township out of any decisions that need to
be made. A sovereign nation is a ration un to itself. Sweden is a
sovereign nation. Germany 'is a sovereign nation. All of these
nations have their own sets of laws whether it be civil, zoning, or
whatever. They don't have to abide by Mashpee town rules nor
would the Tribal Council have to abide by Mashpee town rules.
They would have to abide by state rules or national rules. That
scares me a little bit. The second issue also while we are
discussing sovereign nation, we have asked many, many tunes,
what is the sovereign nation we are discussing'? Is it a small area`?
Is it a large area? And, there is a neap. I know there is a reap. I
haven't seen the map. It's at the IA saying, this is our soverei
negn
nation. So we don't even know how big or how small the
sovereign nation,is. So, I'd still like to see that reap, so I don't
think the tabs really broke clown, I think we were stuck on
sovereign nation. I would clearly aright now whole heartily sit
down and talk to the Tribal Council right now supporting any type
of social or cultural, economic recognition, but I'm not willing to
discuss sovereign nation. That's not something that I think the
town wants to negotiate. I don't think the tori would want to be
left out of the loop in terms of what they can and what they cannot
o. Now,that possibly coup happen, if of course, they are
approved by the IIA, So I think the big hang up Dere, is you know
we didn't talk, but vie corresponded back and forth, we had
communication back and forth. what it,basically boiled down to
was the sovereign nation. we could not cone togrips with
sovereign nation, and that is something that I don't support today.
And, if we need to take a vote on that so the people of Mashpee
know, where their leaders, the selectmen stand. And I'think maybe
Dave's point is a good one and Chuckie says we haven't so maybe
we need to take a vote right now to see where we stand as a board
of selectmen.
Selectman Leveille: One of the things that concerns me...
Selectman.Cahalane; Let's wait when everything...
Selectman Taylor: My biggest thing is the so erweign nation issue and if the way in
which Kenny described it is correct, sovereign nation meaning that
it was one nation be it England or Sweden or Finland or whoever.
When talking to the U.S.,thea yes, I have a problem with that. If it
doesn't mean that, I'd lila somebody to clarify that. I think that
we should be sitting down and talking, knowing which ends each
other is at and see where we can come to in the middle. Because I
just don't believe in the sovereign nation part of it. I do believe the
