TOW"I OP MAzHP E__`E_
TOWN OF MASHPEE
BOARD of HEALTH C L E R K
February T, Zoo T 01 A PR 2; 1
Meeting was called to order at 7:00 p.m.
Members Present: Steven R. Ball, John T. Doherty, L. Glenn Santos, and Veronica A.
Warden
THE TAPE IS NOT PART of THE MEETING; IT IS FOR THE PURPOSE OF
TRANSCRIPTION ONLY.
Mr. Steven R. Ball, Chairman
1. Signwarrants. warrants signed.
APPOINTMENT: Mike Petrin BSC Grow re: 265 Monomoscoy Road
Mr. Mike Petrin of BSC Group and Attorney Kevin Kirrane were in attendance for this
scheduled appointment.
Mr. Kirrane stated, "If you recall, we were here a few weeks back to discuss the
installation of a Clivus Multrim system in connection with the site which would
include a mounded element. At that tirne there was some discussion relative to the
need for variance relief because of the proximity ofthe system to the abutters lot line.
After further discussion with our engineer and conflicts that may have arisen between
the pilings for the screened in Porch that was proposed for the building and moving
that system back ' closer to the building, we have decided to go with the notice
instead to the abutter-. We have copies of the certified mail receipts. .The system is in
the location that it was proposed. t
Mr. Ball stated that the Board has never approved a mounded system. He
recommended that the request be re-worded to indicate that the variance to install the
mounded system would be. in conjunction with the installation of a Clivus 1 lultrirrr
system only.
Ir. Kirrane confirmed that the variance for a mounded system was only being
requested on the basis of the installation of the Clivus 11 ultrirn composting toilet
system.
Mr. Doherty stated, "Taking into consideration that you are going to have a
considerable reduction in discharge, do you still need to mound it?" ",We've always felt
that soil in its natural state is compacted to such a degree that it creates a filter of
specific density. When you come and strip out and bring in loose Till, you just don't
get that same density ofmaterial." "We've never allowed it."
Mr. Ball indicated that he would rather see a strip-out than amounded system,
however the applicant is not able to meet the vertical separation, which is a very strict
requirement.
