I <br /> MrNUTES April 25, 1996 5 BOARD OF BEALTH <br /> i <br /> I <br /> Mr. Johnson stated, "Over the past six months I have retrofitted 37 of the <br /> restaurants we have with the combination ofthe IV C and smoke-eaters." "You are <br /> able to maintain the smoking in the bar area with the pick-up area there for the food.�7 <br /> "These systems will be able to stand alone and comply with the smoking laws." "The <br /> smoke cleaner system has a rating of 95%." <br /> Mr. Doe relayed, "The smoke cleaning systems have already been installed." "we <br /> are requesting a variance from the smoking regulation." "Our hardship is the physical <br /> layout of the restaurant." "I don't have the option to switch and bring dining fac .-ties <br /> through another section ofthe restaurant. <br /> Mr. Ball stated, `AAs Mr. Doe has improved plans considerably on contam4 g <br /> smoke in the bar area I would vote favorably to the variance reuest.7' <br /> Mr. Doe informed Board members, `The system's will be serviced twice monthly." <br /> "Board members are welcome to come to the restaurant to see the physical layout." <br /> W. Evans questioned, "What is the normal occupancy load of this system?" <br /> Mr. Doe responded, " .S.H. . requires 6 turns per hour as a �r�urr 10 i <br /> preferred." "we're turning the air 35 times per hour with the roof top unit alone so we <br /> are fax exceeding .S.H.A. requirements." <br /> Mr. Doherty commented, "I am concerned that one or more of the systems may be <br /> turned off to save on the utility bill." <br /> Mr. Doe responded, "That would not happen because the largest piece o <br /> equipment we have on our roof is the heated nalup air unit to the hood so it's being <br /> shorty led., "We don't have to turn the ducts or heat down." '@'&All controls are under <br /> lock and key in the manager's oise.' <br /> W. McQuaid stated, I would recommend the Board grant the variance request <br /> with the stipulation the certificate ofoccupancy is issued and lex. Evans inspects and <br /> approves a 1996 food establishment license, should any complaints arise from cigarette <br /> smoke within the facility the Board will review the 1997 license and may require full <br /> compliance with the town of 1 lashpee, Board of Health "Smoking Regulation" adopted <br /> 199 .'3t <br /> I <br />
