MINUTES June 6, 1996 5 BOARD OF BEALTH
Mr. Fri. on responded, "60 p.p.b." "we are going to be monitoring five homes on
a weekly basis."
Mr. McQuaid informed residents, "If anyone would like to have their wells
91)
retested just call the Board of Health.
M-. Frigon stated, "we are committed to continue our study to determine what
exactly is going on and where it comes from." "We will keep the Board of Health
informed on a regular basis.'
Discussion took place regarding the failed septic system in 1992 and the oil which
was found in the groundwater at that time. Questions were raised as to whether other
compounds were found in the water.
Mr. McQuaid stated, "I know we tested for hydrocarbons but D.E.P. required the
A gat Company to monitor for v.o.c.' ." "Mr. McQuaid questioned Mr. Pakkard, "If't
was only hydrocarbons not T.C.E. found in the water thea why was a full v.o.c. test
required of their drinking water wells:ill
Mr. Pakkard responded, "I do not have details when this went on but looking
through the records there was some monitoring of the groundwater that was required
quarterly for one year." "I do not know where those wells were because I couldn't get
that information."
Mr. McQuaid stated, `'Our office received a copy of the `Notice of Responsibility"'
that the D.E.P. sent to Augat in January where one of their monitoring weEs showed 26
p
. . .,,l "The D.E.F. gave Augat 60 days to come up with a plan to remediate the
situation and, one year to complete the remediation." `This monitoring well was
approxuntely 500' away from the closest private well arra knowing that groundwater
travels about 1 1/2' per day it would tape that contamination one year to reach a private
home."
Ir. Cram stated, "we are gaiting for the hydrogeological report before we can do
anything."
Concerned citizens voiced their concern with drinking and bathing in contaminated
water.
Mr. Doherty informed residents, "We cannot force ugat to do anything until it's
proven that they caused the pollution."
