Meeting was called to order at 7: 06 .r . by Chairman. . Chairman recogrti zed Mr. Blakeman. Mr. Blakeman directed a question to Selectman Thomas regarding the memo that was sent out on Future Planning. Mr. . Blakeman wanted to know if it was every five gears that you 'had to update the Plan. Selectman Thomas responded that the Town doesn' t have to, but what Mr. Cassano is saying is that if the Town wants to acquire any grants , it' s going to be a criteria to acquire any funds., Selectman Thomas stated that she had spoken en with Earl Marsters about this , and she thought it would be. a good .idea for Planning and Conservation to work together, . Chairman recognized Mrs. Patricia Cooper. Mrs . Cooper warted to know the criteria for hiring Special Police Officers. Chairman responded that you- are require to go through a ,police course at Barnstable. Mrs. Cooper asked if this was required prior to appointment. Chairman responded sometimes yes and sometimes no. It depends on'. the person' s background and what the needs are for his services . In appointing, we look for the recommendations of the Chief of Police, There aro no set standards for a Special Police officer. Each case is reviewed individually. 4, Robert Sullivan was appointed tb the Personnel. Board on August 1, 1980. He had stopped' by earlier in the week and saw Selectman .Thomas. Chairman stated that he had also stopped by his office. 5. Chairman read .letter from Highway Department regarding the bid for their photocopy machine. The Highway Department recommended that the bid be awarded to Spaulding Company for the' Spaulding 3M. They were low bidder. Chairman asked if they had budgeted for this, Total cost for lease purchase for three gears is $3,, 429 , 84 . Total purchase price is $2 , 995. 00. Selectman Thomas asked if they could cheek with Nancy to see if she knew if they had budgeted for this . Nancy responded that she didn' t know but didn' t think their_ had. Chairman stated that the Board would not tape action on the bid until next geek and requested that Highway be contacted to see if they had budgeted for the machine. . Discussion took place on establishing a date to review the Executive Secretary applications. Ninty-three applications were received.
