4
Mr. Rich stated that he had Mr. Weld do it because he was they at
the meeting. -, I don' t think we 'could have handled that meeting very
well without ,him there.
#4. On Fred Peters , we had a meeting with him the other night. He
was upset that he was not at the very first meeting when
Sergeant Cooper met with us, Sergeant Cooper was asked to meet
with us.
Chairman stated this was in regards to vacation vs sick leave.
Mr.- Rich stated that' s correct. Rightfully so he was upset and stated
th.at if the meeting was about me , why wasn't I there, I assumed h
was to sick to be there and evidently he was not and you can understanding
the man' s feeling and his concerning about his pay and he should have
been there. We didn' t know- we were meeting. I guess he was told by
Mrs. Thomas or somebody to meet. From now on, I think that the man
involved should be there.
Selectman Thomas stated that she did - not speak with Mr. Peters whatsoever.
Mr. Rich h stated that' s the problem.
Selectman Thomas stated that she didn' t know she was to spear with
Mr. Peters.
Mr. Rich responded that if it involves him, why wouldn' t he be at the
meeting.
Selectman Thomas stated that she didn' t arrange any meeting.
i
Chairman asked what meeting he was referring to.
Mr. Rich stated that Sergeant Cooper came to them. The union cane
in representing Mr. Peters and we didn' t real i. e that Mr. Peters ha t
been conducted.
Chairman stated that he would go back over the highlights :' 'My understanding
was that we knew he had been in the hospital , gone under a .serious
operation, he would be out of work and we received word from sergeant
Cooper or the Association that he had exhausted his sick days .-and wool n' t
be able to return to work right away but didn' t want his pay to be
interrupted. They were considering a sick bank and until such time
the vacation was to be used so that Fred wouldn 't lose money. light
so far?
Mr. Rich responded that 's correct.
Chairman stated that apparently where it broke down was that. ep was
never informed that after his sick days , he' s vacation was going to
be cut into. , That was the discussion we had with sergeant Cooper and
the Chief and I presume the union, I myself thought at the time that
.ep was sick and couldn' t make a meeting. Now the only mechanism that
we were aware of that could substitute for vacation pay is a sick bank
and I guess that' s part of the new contract. I think what we have
here is that Zep never realized from you or us or the Chief that his
vacation would be cut into - in order to keep him with pay. There was
 _
