PA R A : We are not only considering the impact of the next
or 9 y.ea'r , we 'also have to be veer aware of
what we -acre 'doing to the- Town of Mashpee 55 or .80
years from now. None of us are going to be here .
It' s an all new ball game with new people.
We want to have' a tool, a mechanism here, that those
people can inf act b e heard and represented which this
document does refer to in the South Cape Beach Advisory
Committee-, We are- not looking and talking about the
next 3, 4, or 5 years .
'SELECTMAN GARLAND: I have a question for Mrs, Thomas, Mr. Martiros - and
Town Counsel, Have any of you seem written approval
from the Attorney General ' s office of that document
All responded no.
V TE _1 As you talk about what' s going to happen in years
to come , this is what we are thinking. This is
the reason we formed our committee. W -know what
it is going to be doing - it' s going to be developing.
We want to know that you people aro with us, we just
can' t stand -anymore big development.
CHAIRMAN: Without the pressure and the Town we would not have
been able to get the Agreement we have presently
out of the' Commonwealth of Massachusetts , We
probably would have gone more and more of a carte
}Manche taking -by the Commonwealth
VOTER: It certainly is good to hear you say that the
Selectmen are concerned about. what's ci g to happen
85 years from now because I think that is what the
Town Meeting said the other night, Thev are not
as concerned about 5 years -from now as they. are about
50 years from now. Early someone said that we didn' t
trust our Selectmen. In our estimation the selectmen
act upon the .will of the people of the Town. Town
Counsel keeps referrinq to the Town. Well to rine the
Town is the- people of the Town and they spoke up the
other night. One other thine Nor, Benway it was mentioned
that if a change was substantial you could. again call
another Town Meeting- . I. think that if that happens ,
there. will be clot of us 'that will be pretty discouraged
because I guess- some of us have the feeling that when
the chips are down you three Selectmen really aren' t
listening to us.
CHAIRMAN: On the contrary. We are li-stening to the townspeople
and on the contrary because we didn't have to go to
Town Meeting for any of the discussion, any of the
vote at all . we could have crude. the decision whether
to go with or against the State proposal right here
with these three people. Because we- didn't, I think
controverts completely your ar uement that we have
faith in the people out there, we went out to hear
them and we .heard. All we are saying tonight is
-1 -
