that we want to see back from the Commonwealth not
• from you,- not from South Cape 'Bedch committee and
not from us . From the Commonwealth whose going to
get. the land for conservation, we want to see from
then the Attorney General' s approval of that
Agreement. That' s what .the Town Meeting voted.
VOTED: o , we can all sleep better tonight because we will
- - have knowledge that - you three are really and truly
are protecting the interest of all of this Town*
SELET +iA ` ' ARLANL : You had better believe that!.
VOTER: You feel a morale obligation to obey the will of
the people.
CHAIRMAN: A political obligation. contrary to the way
politics is used, politics is a good word, It means
the involvement of 'people. In getting people to
agree to, to accomplish and to do something. That
is what we have here and it' s good,
VOTER: I 'm stili. going to say morale obligation. Each one
- -- ofy o -....stated that before we went ,to the Town Meeting
.
that you would abide by the wishes of the people and
now although .we don' t have anything legal. to sign
do you each agree that you have a moral obligation
-to obey what the people voted on last week.
'SELECTMAN THOMAS : As leaders., we d.efinitelr 'do.
CHAIRMAN: In the form as voted and approved, sure.
Thank you gory much for corning.
Bill iarti ros , Clarence Peterson, Jim Ames and members from the
Conservation Committee met with the Hoard in regards to the water
level of John' s Pond. Concern was expressed that .Iakepeace was
drawing water off the pore for their bogs .
Chairman stated -that he had Jim Ames contact people from Makepeace ,
and the Commonwealth of Mas a hu' setts relative . to what Makepeace
can do and can not do in regards ' to flooding bogs , Right now,
Makepeace i s not taking any water for his boas from the south side
P g
of John' s Pond.. If water is running off, it has nothing to do with
al epeace or his bogs . It' s because someone has been taking the
hoards out or there is ' a culvert that' s open. on the north end of
the Pond right now, Makepoace is taking no water for its bogs .
They will be taking water in October to harvest the boas and they
will also take water in late December or early January to flood the
boas because of the Winter -kill. In addition, the present license
that Makepeace has with the Commonwealth of Massachusetts which was
renegotiated in 1968 , has no drop limit written into it per se,
They - can take .water for their operation, however, there is a catch
phrase which if proper notification is made _to the Commonwealth
that and level hays descended to such a lel as to interfere with
or preclude the use and plesure and so forth of the. residents of
the Pond, upon proper notification to the Conunonwealth the on-
-1 -
i
