f • 'r
Administrative Meeting 5/19/81.
Page 2.
Executive Secretary feels the -matter should be pursued with Town
Counsel., Chin. Garland directed that a copy of the letter should
o to Joe Reardon.
7 Executive secretary gave update on the status of the brushbreaer.
It was picked up in Lawrence on Monday. All parties concerned,
the Exec. Secretary, Fire Chief and Firefighters are totally dis-
satisfied with the work haat was done ---wires were left expsed,
metal has rough edges , baskets covering lights have jagged edges
f steel which could injure anyone corning near thea. Exec. Secre-
tary has asked the Fire Chief not to use' the brushbrealer unless
there is extreme demand; should be ]sept out of service until the
Master Mechanic of Falmouth Fire Department is allowd to examine
the truck, and observes enough to be prepared to testify, if that
should be necessary. The Firefighter who is a photographer is
going to take pictures to use for i stirnon . If the company which
did the repairs, Gibson, should call, the Fire Department personnel
has been instructed t say "i t is not satisfactory., but we will not
discuss the work or the hill" . . . that will be done by Town Counsel.
Specific problems : -oil is overflowing, brake lights don' t work,
,
poor welding, poor workmanship. Jean Thomas stated that this is
unusual for that company, they came highly- recommended.
. Exec. secretary reported that the Firefighter' s Association has pre-
sented a grievance to the Personnel. Board relative to thein interpre-
tation on holiday pay. Exec. Secretary assumes John weld will
recommend denying the grievance-, as it is supposed to be filed with-
in five days of -grievance- be ing cornmi ttee d; they will probably just
file .again five days after Memorial Day. The regulations taiLhi.ng
to holiday pair- in, the Police and DPW were brought up -- sed.. Thomas
reminded the Executive secretary that the superintendent of streets
also is entitled to holiday pay.
9 The Executive secretary asked permission to hare , on a temporary basis,
someone for the Maintenance Department to replace Gerry D Talo, who is
out on sick leave. He pointed out that that department is very short-
handed at a critical time, and the necessary funds are available. Sel.
Thomas asked if he had anyone in mind; Exec . Secretary might consider
CETA employee.
to Executive secretary questioned when the Board wanted the new committee
appointed to study the town' s growth, now that the Article had passed.
Did the Board want anyone to be appointed other than rexresentatives
from the Planning Board, Board of Selectmen, Board of Appeals Yes,
Jean Thomas suggested the Treasurer and assessors and Conservation
Commission should also be represented - and probably the Board of
Health, Chairman Garland suggested called the committee the "Growth
Review Committee" W) ; that reales 7 people - a good size. others
may be called upon for input, such as Police and Fire Departments.
As to what areas the Committee should cover, Jean Thomas felt they
should consider- all the parcels of- town-owned land, and what dis-
position should be made of it. Perhaps some of the. small , land-locked
parcels should be sold. They should also consider reaping some of it
conservation land.
