Be would - suggest that the Government Study <br /> ommittee 'prepare a press release, place a legal notice in the <br /> papers , and contact all department heads , informing them of the <br /> planned meeting, and urging them to contribute their input. <br /> sel, Thomas stated that she has contacted all but two members of the <br /> Government Study Committee, and has phone calls in to them. of those <br /> she ' has spoken to., most of them didn't realize the meeting was i:ritended <br /> to be a public hearing, The Executive secretary felt a message must <br /> be gotten to the Committee to impress upon thea that this- matter is <br /> too important to he treated so cast ally so far as notification and <br /> publication of the public hearing is concerned. It is essential that <br /> the public and department heads he provided with an .opportunity to <br /> contribute to all aspects of this. study, Chairman Garland agreed. <br /> Regarding the beaches , the Executive Secretary reported that he has <br /> been working on the situation. when . he visited the beach the previous <br /> day, he was very disappointed in its appearance. There were no port- <br /> a--johns there last week-end -,this problem is being corrected. The <br /> beaches should he cleaned regularly; trash should be emptied every <br /> night. This will he taken care of also. - Chairman Garland wondered <br /> how it would be realistically possible to police the area clown -there; <br /> could the lifeguards take the licenses of violators and turn them in <br /> The Executive Secretary would not recommend placing that responsibility <br /> .on the lifeguards. Ch. Garland questioned how much patroling is being <br /> done by the police The Executive Secretary will talk to the Police <br /> Chief about this matter. Chm, Garland acknowledged that this is a <br /> difficult problem to deal with; ,.- even the parking lots in the Shopping <br /> Centers are covered with litter after a week-end. Sel. Thomas# stated <br /> that theme has preViou ly been one thorough beach cleaning once <br /> year, when the sand is raked and sifted by a machine, <br /> Regarding the recent complaint against Fire Fighter Chase, the Execu- <br /> tive Secretary reported that a recommendation of disciplinary action <br /> will be forthcoming from the Fire Chief soon. The recommendation will <br /> probably he for a suspension, with no •loss of pay. The Fire Chief has <br /> talked to the Firefighter, which resulted in a very emotional scene <br /> he is apparently genuinely fearful of losing his job.' Mr. Chase <br /> maintains that he is in need of psychiatric treatm Ent. . He has plenty <br />
