Chairman Garland stated that he thought <br /> Ir* Chase had undergone some sort of evaluation at the time he had <br /> been advised by Dr. Lewis to lose 'Weight. There has been no signif i� <br /> cant weight reduction. Se,l. Thomas wondered if the weight problem <br /> might have a glandular cau-se? or -perhaps a psychiatric cause <br /> Chairman Garland stated that these charges are serious, iJ5 the allega- <br /> tions are true. The Executive Secretary reported that lir. Chase has <br /> told a di f ferent version from ,the c omp1aintant, and confirm d that Mr. <br /> Chases personnel records do , contain evidence that he has provided <br /> services to his neighbors in the past. His past records will be ] fore <br /> { this Board if a Dearing is held. <br /> Regarding the Public works Building Study Committee, the Executive <br /> Secretary apologized for the fact that the letters to prospective mem- <br /> bers of the Committee have not been sent out. They got bogged down in <br /> other .work in the office which seemed to have priority. However, they <br /> will go out -immediately. l el ati to the reference to work getting <br /> "bogged down" , Chm. Garland wondered if something, could be done to_• _. . <br /> -avoid some of the large amount of typing. The Executive Secretary <br /> stated that the hid letters take a great deal of time, the past practice <br /> has been to notify all bidders , individually, of the results of the <br /> bidding. He is considering making one copy of the results, to he <br /> duplicated and sent to all bidders, Sel, Thomas felt this would be <br /> acceptable, if a clarified summary could be compiled. She felt the <br /> summary the Selectmen received from the Highway hway Department this year <br /> was very confusing. All resit agreed. Chm.- Garland stated that in <br /> all his business experience, if anyone was. interested in bid results , <br /> they either had to be in attendance for the bid opening, or pay to <br /> have a bid summary sent to them. Sel, Thomas felt a copy of the <br /> Board' s actions on these matters should go to the Finance Committee and <br /> to the Town Accountant. =i <br /> l It now being 10: 30 ,, Barbara Hammond,' Town Treasurer/Tax olle tor, <br /> appeared to discuss the appointment of someone for her office to the <br /> position, of Senior Clerk, Sho asked Sel. Thomas if she had given <br /> further -consideration to her request for appointment. Sel. Thomas <br /> made it clear that she is dissatisfied with the present system of <br /> making employee appointments . She eels if the- Selectmen are just ex- <br /> pected to rubber stamp the recommendations of the k l ers nnel Board and/ <br /> or the Department Head, they should not be involved at all . She feels <br /> that this is an area that the Government Study Committee should be <br /> addressing. <br /> el. Garland stated that this is where they have a difference in philos- <br /> ophy;' he does not feel the Selectmen should be involved in day to day <br /> 11minuta " . He did4not feel the Government Study Committee should be a <br /> part of the preset discussion, - } <br /> Barbara Hammond stated that if the Selectmen are going to vote on the <br /> appointments, perhaps they should come to the interviews. She asked <br /> when she could expectthe. appointment .to be made. The Chairman replied <br /> that it would be made "tomorrow, if Devin is here" . Sel , Thomas <br />
