di DE PARTMENTHEAD'S' MEETING
Au t- 101l 1
o F'
Present: Chairman Chester A. Garland & selectman B. Jean Thomas
FIRE CHIEF
1 Cting j-Chief Gould appeared before the Board to discuss Fire
Department matters . He reported that having Gordon Peters
doing the vehicle maintenance was working out well. He is
doing prevenitive maintenance, as well as repair work. He is
being paid $14.75 per hour, and he is able to get 30% - o off
on the warts that are needed for the work. He did an excellent
job on the ambulance. Having him do the work saves taking the
vehicles to Hyannis , plus the loss of 2 men for travel time. H
has radio contact with the station, so Can be called whenever he
is needed. All the maintenance work is being done at the Fire
Station now, rather. than being taken to the warn or a garage,
hief Gould feels that in the lona run, the department will be
far ahead.
2 Chief Gould reported Mr. Chase will be doing to the doctor on the
18th of August.
Chin. Garland asked Chief Geula if he ]anew what the meeting was
about that the Firefighters were requesting. Scotty said it was
bout the proposed procedure for selecting the lieutenants. He
has talk d to them, and thinks he has convinced thea to take the
test - he told theta it's their department, if they want someone
else to core in and run it, G.K. - otherwise they should consider
taking the test; he believes most of thea are going to decide to
take it.
RECREATION DIRECTOR fix' RAY MARTINI
1. Reported that they have a problem with rubbish collection. The pri-
vate contractor doesn't want to pick it up during the week, since
there is no place to dump it on Tuesdaynd Thursday - he only wants
to service the Beach can week-ends. Sel. Thomas wondered .if it would
e possible to have the Maintenance crew do it for the few remaining
weeks of the summer i, It was pointed out that the Maintenance Crew
can devote a lot of time to this job, if they have to take the barrels
to the dump, empty them', and then return the barrels to the Beach,
Chir►. Garland will ask Mr. Jacobson if he can send a dump true down
there to have the .barrel<s emptied into it; that would save some time.
Wendy Rubin reported that the Highway Dept. had made them some nice
signs , so they now have the rules and regulations posted. She assured
the Selectmen that they are firmly nailed down,
Wendy reported that some of Mash ee' s Lifeguards will be participating
in competition at l auset Beach,
Wendy reported that she is now sending out newsletters to be sure
that all guards are kept abreast of activities.
