x
Dept. Heads Mtg,
8/1.0/81
Page 2.
WALTER- JACoBSO • HI'GHWA -SUPT. •
1 Agreed to pick up trash at Beach on Monday, Weds. and Fridays , and
to having it done by a dump truck. He will , however, contact a
private company in Barnstable to see what they would charge to do
the job. In the meantime, he will handle it.
2 Sel Thomas asked Jake if the Corporation had contacted hien for an
egress permit? No, but that is a very dangerous intersection. He
questioned whether a permit was necessary, - since it is only being
used temporarily.
POLI CHIEF FRYE
l Chief Frye reported that the new cruisers have arrived; they are now
transferring the equipment. Chm. Garland asked if he had found out
the reason for the delay in delivery. Negative. Chm. Garland stated
that unlike Joe Murphy, he feels a Purchase order should be sent, in
addition to the notification of acceptance of bid. Chief Frye felt a
formal order might hav e helped. Chief Frye stated that next year, he
would like to order through the Greater Boston Council - he feels that
the Town could sage as much as $2 ,000 by ordering through that agency.
He stated that they have now modified their cruisers to conform with
his specifications , so we right as well go with thea. Falmouth P.D.
ordered their cruisers through thea, they seem to be working well, and
the Chief over there is satisfied with the new transmissions.
2)
del.. Thomas asked the Chief if the department had a big week-end? He
reported that there had been reports of 3 or 4 cars being vandalized in
New Seabury, but them had been no problem with big parties.
Chief was asked if the department has .issued many After Hours Fishing
Permits. He replied that they have issued some, he. doesn't know just
how many* He stated -that they have been 'imprinted with the Torn seal,
so that they can't be copied. Chm. Garland asked if there have been
many people caught trespassing at the Beach. Chief reported that they
have caught a few,
4 Chief ' Frye reported that he had obtained a pick-up truck from the
D#A: ' s office, he is now hoping to get the black van that was conf is- ,
sated, but he doesn't know when it will be released. He will try to
get a boat, also. Sel. Thomas said she could see why it would be
useful for the police department to have a boat to use, Chief Frye
reported -that the boat he is hoping to get has two engines , but no
-trailer. He feels he could really use it if he had someone who knows
how to operate it properly. He would life to train some of the Special
Police officers he has in the department now. Sels Thomas said she
feels it is appropriate for the Waterways, Police to come under his de-
partment.
e-partm nt. Chief Frere said they would have to have special' training for
use on the water, but he feels they should be Special Police officers
because they need to use police powers .
The Chief was asked if speeding has been a problem. He said it has
been, and he has been thinking of putting up radar warning signs , and
have a radar unit on duty occasionally. He• can think of about
pedific ..areas where it is needed. Chm. Garland stated it is too bad
