She feels an <br /> investigation to determine ethr- Or not they are serving patrons , <br /> would be appropriate. Chat. Garland agreed, and the Executive Secre- <br /> tary was directed to request the Police Department to check on that <br /> operation, <br /> Regarding the omnibus School intention to sub-lease the building they <br /> are renting to the CETA Consortium to run GED and Skills Training <br /> Courses at night, Sel. Thomas, said she has no objection, nor did Chm, <br /> Garland, 'who stated hedidn't mind if they made money, especially if <br /> the money is being put into the building. The Executive Secretary <br /> i <br /> suggested the Board not respond to the Omnibus School inquiry until <br /> the question of a site for the :Ind.ian Children' s Classes has been <br /> settled. 1 <br /> Regarding the request from the Marine Corps Reserves , sel. Thomas <br /> dP <br /> said this .exercise has previously caused some Concerns with the Con- <br /> servation Commission. She feels that nothing should be done to disturb <br /> the ecology there -- stating "we- should preserve what we have" . The <br /> Executive Secretary also had reservations about permitting water <br /> exercises that early in the year., when. there could be swimmers present. <br /> The Chairman directed Mr. Murphy to find out more about what the Marine <br /> Corps has in mind- - the number and kind of vehicles , etc. <br /> to Regarding the uniform bids ,, the Executive Secretary reported that the <br /> Highway Superintendent would have a recommendation- ready tomorrow. <br /> Other -Subjects <br /> 1 Mr. Murphy reported that the moor of, the Inspections Department is under- <br /> way, and that Ray will e ' doing the Selectmen' s Office floor on Friday. <br /> 2Regarding Mr. Murphy' s memo on a Snaler of weights and Measurers , el, <br /> Thomas stated that this has been Considered in the past, although it is <br /> not nnandated for a town with a population under 5 ,000. Some considera- <br /> tion had been given at one time to sharing the position with theBarn- <br /> stable. Sealer. It had - actually been submitted in the budget for two <br /> years , but nothing had happened. She suggested getting things limed <br /> up for the Annual Town Meeting. Mr. Murphy stated the town could really <br /> use the services of such a person, fok the liquor establishments , etc. <br /> And to check the scales at fruit stands, etc. <br /> This led to a discussion of the number of fruit stands and people selling <br /> fresh vegetables out of the back of station wagons , trucks, etc. How <br /> much; of this should be allowed? The Executive Secretary stated he, doesn't <br /> mind the selling of fresh vegetables that people have raised themselves , <br /> but doesn 't like - souvenirs , etc. , being sold .in this manner. Chem. Gar- <br /> 'land pointed out that in some places these stalls-, tables and trucks <br /> can create a real traffic hazard. Mr. Murphy stated it is the responsi- <br /> bility <br /> ility of the Police Dept. to deal 'with this problem - they have the <br /> authority to warn anyone 'if they are creating a safety hazard. <br />
