The Selectmen agreed to this action. <br /> sel. Thomas stated we have 2 t xi- licenses now, should we he adding <br /> another? It was pointed out that one taxi operator was in an acci- <br /> dent, and does not intend .to. renew his license. There was some <br /> question as to whether or not the other was operation. Mr. Murphy <br /> stated there should he some requirement for operators to notify the <br /> Town if their Licenses become inactive, He stated there is no regula- <br /> tion regarding the number of licenses th t a Town may issue. <br /> 1 Regarding the beginning of negotiations . r. Murphy reported that he <br /> expects to be hearing from the clerical union within 2 or 3 -weeps. <br /> Are we going to get a professional negotiator to handle the contracts <br /> Mr. Garland stated he keeps hearing the name of Mr. Gilman as a good <br /> possibility. Mr. Murphy will pursue this <br /> 11. r egarding the appointments to the laborers positions in the Highway <br /> Department, Mr. Murphy stated Mr, Jacobson is anxious to get people <br /> on hoard; the vacancies were created by the death of Mr. Smith, and <br /> the resignation of Chuclie Greene, which resulted in some promotions <br /> Chm. Garland reviewed the applications . Mr. Murphy will talk to Mr. <br /> Jacobson to get his recommendations . <br /> SELECTMAN THOMAS RE: AARP CANE <br /> sel, Thomas reported that the AARP has obtained the can to be passed <br /> along to the oldest senior citizen in Mashpee.' They will want the elect- <br /> men -to be involved in the presentation. The Selectmen felt it would be <br /> appropriate to have the presentation made at the Sr. Citizen Center, and <br /> to invite the press to he present. <br /> CHMa:I: GARLAND RE: DOG OFFICER <br /> Chm. Garland reported that he has some concern over the Dog offi-- <br /> cerls being involved in police activities . He wonders if this involve- <br /> ment is voluntary, or if his assistance is being solicited. Mr. Garland <br /> feels concern regarding the Town' s responsibility if the Dog Officer is <br /> involved in any dangerous activity which he is not officially authorized <br /> to perform. <br /> -Notes taken by Grace Erdman <br />
