JA
i
-BOARD of SELECTMEN
TOWN of MASHPEE
MEMO
Board of Selectmen
FROM: Executive Se tor r
DATE: December 22 1981
R : License Fees
Most of the licenses issued by the Board are to be
renewed i ' the next week or so.
t While I recommend substantial increases in alcoholic
beverages license fees, which were . accepted by the Board,
I do not recommend at this time any other lice sing fee
changes .
Instead,- I recommend the Board .include an article at
the Annual Town Meeting Warrant stating the following: to
see if the .Town will vote to adopt achedule of fees in
accordance with enabling Legislation enacted as part of
t-he FY 1 .82 budget of the Commonwealth and then a table of
fees is in l ded.
This table of fees can be developed .using, as a
basis, those recommended by' - the Massachusetts Municia.l
Association wh.ich. .Barnstable 'used) as well as taking local
condition's into consideration.
number of fees can be icre'ased without Town Meeting
action. However, the FY 182 budg t, required Town Meeting
action in the care of other license fees .g. license for
laces of public lodging) .
I think that all those items 'requiring Town Meeting
endorsement of a limit should go on the warrant . Should the
Town vote to approve them, other licenses could go up,
correspondingly.
As a practical matter, the increase in liquor license fees
hit our major commercial enterbrises hard. Most of the other
licenses vVe have (certainly in terms of dollars ' if not numbers
