MINUTES OF MEETING OF BOARD OF SELECTMEN <br /> January 20 , 1982 <br /> Present: Vice Chairman B. Jean Thomas, Selectman Kevin D . o'Connell, . <br /> Executive Secretary Joseph .F. Murphy, Jr. , with Chairman <br /> Chester A. Garland absent because he was attending a Meeting <br /> . of the Barnstable County- Finance Board. <br /> Nice Chairman Jean Thomas convened the meeting ' at 2: 00 p.m'. . Sel. Kevin <br /> O'Connell moved -acceptance' of the Minutes of the Meetings of January <br /> . and January 13 , 19820 <br /> OLD BUSINESS <br /> 1. Mr, Murphy explained- that the request for the release to <br /> be signed was the result of the insurance settlement for <br /> damage done to town property in a motor vehicle accident <br /> in June of 1981 . Damaged was a guard rail and sign. Sel.. <br /> O'Connell roved that Mr. Murphy be authorized to sign; it <br /> was a vote, to release - Dwight Peters from further claims . <br /> 2 There was before the Board for action a bequest for Trans- <br /> fer from the Reserve Fund, see attached) . The request is <br /> for $2 ,400. 00 to employ a C.P.A. , Judith FitzGerald to <br /> reconcile the boos in the Accounting Department. Selo <br /> O'Connell moved that the request be submitted to the <br /> Finance Committee. I t- was . a vote. <br /> NEW BUSINESS <br /> l Sel. Thomas announced that one of the signs, that on Route <br /> #130 , which read. "Land of the mpan ags" had been stolen <br /> the previous night. Sel. O'Connell roved that the rest of <br /> the similar signs - be taken -down and put into storage - for <br /> safe-keeping. Sel . Thomas asked if it aright not be a good <br /> idea to ' take - action to protect the sign at the Museum in the <br /> same way? It was voted -to remove that sign, also. Sel <br /> Connell stated that the 'Iowa had invested $2 , 500 ire those <br /> signs some gears ago, and ,their would undoubtedly be- worth <br /> quite a bit more now. They should be provided with security, <br /> he said. Sel. Thomas remembered that at the recent Meeting <br /> with members of the Tribal Council to discus' their grant <br /> proposals , one of their representatives present stated tha <br /> they were fearful that- all signs of their heritage would disa- <br /> ppear from the Town. This .-will assure that that doesn! t happen. <br /> 2 : 15 NEW ENGLAND TELEPHONE COMPANY HEARING <br /> Selectman Thomas convened the Telephone Company Nearing at 2: 1see <br /> attached) , and read the legal notice which had appeared in the Falmouth <br /> Enterprise' , She asked if there were -any present to offer objections or <br /> comments on the application to install the pole? There were none. Mr., <br /> Livingstone of the Telephone Company was. present, ' however,, and noted that <br /> the company- was not- ju t asking to put in new construction, but to up- . <br /> oracle and replace some old poles. Selo O'Connell roved .granting approval <br /> f the application, The vote was unanimous .. <br />
