r t J
BOS r4eeting
2./3/82
Page 2 .
CHIEF GOULD RE: INSTALLATION OF DIESEL TANK
Chief Gould was present to discuss a problem he had with obtaining
diesel .fuel for Engine 5 . He had sent it to Falmouth to be fueled, and
they discovered that water had seeped into their diesel tank, over there .
They had to drain Engine 5 ' s tank, and put new fuel into it. He reported
that he has a chance to nurchase a 200 gallon above the around tank, with
a hand pump, for a very reasonable price -- under $300 . He has two eng-
ines that use diesel fuel .
Sel. Thomas said she thought he should wait until Town Meeting to take
such action, as we now have a contract to purchase diesel fuel that was
already awarded.
Chief Gould asked if he could purchase the tank now, and the pump also,
but not start using it until after this fiscal year? Mr. Murnhy renorted
that DiMaggio has not been able to honor his contract. Sel. Thomas said
she then seens no problem with him to start using it now, providing we
can clear it with DiMaggio first.
Chief Gould said he would like to keen this tank just for the Fire De-
nartment, was that beinq selfish? The Selectmen could understand his re-
quest. Chief Gould said in an emergency, he would consent to a DPiq
vehicle taking fuel from his tank.
On another subject, Chief_ Gould said he would like to have Nancy Canata,
or someone, sit with Lucy and learn her job, so in case of illness or
vacation, she could fill in. The Selectmen informed the Chief that this
was his decision.
Chm. Garland said that before Chief Gould proceeds with his plan, he should
talk with DiMaggio, who holds the diesel contract. Chief said he had done
so yesterday. Chm. Garland asked where the Fire Dept . would get their
diesel fuel? Chief said probably Atwood. Sel. Thomas reminded him to get
a hermit from the Building Inspector.
OLD BUSINESS
1) Regarding the street light survey which has been done by the
Police Denartment, Chm. Garland said he would like to set up
a Hearing date with Mr. Savage of Com Electric, and the two
police officers who had worked on the survey, as soon as possible.
2) On the subject of the .Moderator' s oay, Chm. Garland reviewed
a letter that has been received from Town Counsel, advising
that it was the Board' s decision to make as to whether or not
the Moderator, or any elected official, should be paid his
full salary, if he. resigns mid-year. Chm. (-,Arl.and nointed
out that Mr. Leonardi has already withdrawn 35.. of his year' s
pay. Sel. Thomas said she didn' t believe in navinq someone
for work they didn' t do. She made a motion that the balance
be retained by the Town. It was a vote .
3) Regarding the release to be signed for Paul E . Pimental, for
payment made to the Town for property he damaged in an acci-
dent, Sel . Thomas said she felt it was unnecessary for some-
thing like this to be brought before the Board.
