i
I
Page 4 .
NEW BUSINESS:
1. chr . Thomas replied to Ms . Dubin by stating that. she- feels Wendy
has hit on a key point and that is that we have to go hand in hand
with each other while we go through a very difficult time of adjust-
ment.
-Mrs . Elizabeth Simpson was recogni-zed by the Chairman.
She said as a taxpayer and- a former resident who, has worked very
hard for the state acquisition of the South Cape beach State Park,
she feels very strongly because she thinks it is a magnificient piece
f property and once the state takes over it will be a great resource
and educational type of thing and people will come from all over
to study thebirds , etc. ' She stated that aTter reading the papers,
it seems toher,. that there has been roadblocks after roadblocks.
She also feels that if we keep asking if the State is going to give
the $800 ,000 . for the road, the !Mate' is going, to say the hell with
them. The State is going to give it to someone else, who is interes'-
ted, they will give it out to Nickerson- State Park, those people are
waiting in line to see that the land . al ng the ocean is acquired.
She stated that the State isn't going to sit back and watch. She
knows some of the people are not for the State Park and anything
that can be done to impede the taking of it. She doesn't feel it
is fair- to the -people. of Mashpee, the 800 . that voted for. this , she
doesn' t. fee-1 that the Selectmen are doing what the community wants
done..
Sel. Hansen said he would life to make a comment on this . He said
it carne to him at the meeting the other night and he knows Mrs
Simpson' s feelings towards him and the South' Cape Beach issue, be-
cause he might not of been necessarily in, -favor of the State taking.
He said his -feelings now are that the State owns that property, he
accepts that and h . supports it. He still however doesn' t under-
stand why better planning wasn' t made of this . He said that -we now
have. a 400 car parking facility. He further stated that his first
obligation on this whole project is to secure the rights of Mashpee,.
He said that the State should- give us our beaux, our parking- lot
than that will not interfere at all with the entire development and
they don' t have to do it piece meal at that point.
Mrs. Simpson said. that she found out that by calling .al.ot of. people
that- most of the encroachment was by the developer. She said the
road wasn' t attractive enough to get people interested in buying.
the property, therefore the leve lope r fixed the road himself and
and she doesn' t know where the encroachment is . She also said that
she found out from going to the 'down Highway Department that the
highway maps for the 'down of Mashpee are twenty years old. She said
there i n' t one map over there that is more Current than 1963, now
she said look at all the development that has done on in this co -.
munity,, look at what New Seabury has done, down that road.
Sel. Hanson said- he knows we have a problem with the road. However,
he stated that the road is one, subject and the way the State is
handling this project' is another. He said the way to handle it i
that Mashpee comes first.
