I ' BOARD OF SELECTMEN MEETING I August 31, 1983 PRESENT: Chairman Chester A. Garland, Selectmen Willard L. Hanson and Richard L, Terry, Executive Secretary Joseph F. Murphy. GUESTS: B. Jean Thomas , James Priestly, Thomas Devane, Edward Ha tin, Phillip Barrows , Raymond Garro, George Antoni and Joshua Gottlieb. p.m. - Chairman Garland called the. meeting to order at p. . Motion by Set . -Danson to approve the minutes of the August 24 , 1983 Regular Meeting* Sedonded by Chm. Garland. This is a vote. HEARINGS AND APPOINTMENTS 6 :'00 p.m. Chm. Garland asked if Nor, Devane' was coling for his a pointment which was scheduled for p.m. Executive Secretary said that he had spoken to Mr. Devane today and he is coming. hm. Garland suggested the Board go to old business while waiting. OLD BUSINESS: 1. ) Chm. Garland said that Chief.-)Grey- Wolf had submitted for the Board' s consideration a new application for restoration of the old town hall. hm. Garland also stated that basically it is the same application with a few changes . Executive Secretary recommended that copies be sent to Special Town Counsel and to Town Counsel for review -and to examine the legality of the application.. Executive Secretary started that he is pursuing the matter to see if Town agencies are interested. Sed.. Terry said that it would be good for alot of groups, Executive S cret ry said that it is the Chief Is responsibility to seek groups and see if they would be interested in using it. Chan. Garland authorized the Executive Secretary to pursue this matter and than the Board can see what avenue they have. ' Board concurred. Executive Secretary said that he has received a response from Special Town Counsel already, however, Town Counsel' is on vacation but he would have a response next week or the following Wednesday. Board returned to Hearings and Appointments as Nor. Devane was present. 6 : 08 p.m. - fir. Thomas Devane apologized for being late. . He said that it is th it intention to submit a new proposal for the golf course at Quashnet valley Country Club. He gave- an, update of why they decided to do this, He stated that now that the torn is behind us the U.E . .E and the Arany Corps of Engineer is asking them to do more to get it approved. They are asking therm to brine the course into the upland. In order to do this they have to crass town property . Mr. Ur ina asked for the torn .to swap land or to get an easement from the town, . this was opposed by the Finance Conunittee and the taxpayers association. Now they found out that they may not be able to do this anyway because of the torn forres t. Mr. Devane said that because of these set backs he is asking that the proposal be tabled at the special town meeting. They would
