BOARD of SELECTMEN MEETING <br /> I <br /> November 23, 1983 <br /> PRESENT : Selectmen Willard L. Hanson and Richard L. Terry, Executive Secretary <br /> Joseph F. Murphy and Torn Counsel Joseph J. Reardon. <br /> GUESTS : B. Jean Thomas, Vernice Polkar Jane Peterson, Ernest Virgilio and <br /> the gentlemen from the press . <br /> Selectman Hanson stated that as Chairman Garland was absent today he would <br /> be the Acting Chairman for this- meeting. <br /> Acting Chairman Hanson convened the meeting at 1 :00 p.m. <br /> Motion by Sel. Terry to approve the minutes- of the. November 1. , 1983 <br /> meeting as written. Seconded by Acting Chairman Hanson. This is a vote. <br /> APPOINTMENTS AND HEARINGS <br /> 1:0p.m. - Acting Chairman Hanson. said that where Mr. Ernest Virgilio was <br /> late for his appointment the Board would go to old business. <br /> OLD BUSINESS * <br /> 3- 1. ) Acting ChairmanHans-on -referred to the letter that the Board received <br /> from Mr. Richard J. Egan, Chairman of the Mashpee Concerned Citizens <br /> Committee, He explained that Chairman Garland had written ' to Mr. <br /> Egan asking if some of their committee members would life to - serve <br /> on some of- the town committees. Acting Chairman Hanson read part <br /> f Mr. Egan' s reply, :"We must respond in the negative, under the <br /> present circumstances , we could do much more for our beloved town <br /> by not being part of its official structure. " <br /> el. Terry said that regarding the same matter he had spoken to <br /> Mr. Richard Rando about serving on the Growth ]review Committee and <br /> he turned it down as he is a membi§r of the Mashpee Concerned Citizens <br /> Committee. <br /> NEW BUSINESS : <br /> 2. n the application for a one clay liquor license for Artisans Marketplace, <br /> Executive Secretary explained that the application had been filed after <br /> JL <br /> the fact but he was pursuing it for the fee. Board concurred 'and signed <br /> the one day license. Motion by Sel , Terry to approve the one- day liquor <br /> license for Artisans Marketplace. Seconded by Acting Chairman Hanson. <br /> This is - a gate. <br /> Board returned to appointments and hearings . <br /> Mr. Ernest Virgilio, Superintendent of Streets and Tree Warden was in <br /> to discuss with the Board his goals as tree warden. (see attached) <br /> Board discussed gypsy moths- and how the tree garden is going to try and take <br /> care of the problem by scrapping the trees and destroying there. Mr, Virgilio <br /> said that they will not be burning them, they will put them in Teach. Mrs. <br /> Thomas -who was in attendance said that she heard that trees that have been <br /> attacked build up an immunity. Board thanked Mr. Virgilio for his good <br /> report. <br />
